CRL Closed Cell Backer Rod is a round, flexible, closed cell polyethylene foam with an exterior "skin" used as a backing and thickness control device for elastomeric and other cold-applied sealants. The Backer Rod becomes an integral part of the joint into which it is installed, and therefore is available in a range of diameters to accommodate joints from 3/16" to 1-5/8" (5 to 41 mm). It limits the depth of the sealant, thereby preventing excessive use of the sealant, which promotes proper joint design. Because the sealant will not bond to the "skin" of the rod, it can stretch and recover with joint movement, with minimal stress being put on the points of adhesion to the substrate.. After grinding crack larger in driveway this filled the gap nicely. Caulked the crack and it’s good to go.

This is a small diameter backer rod which can be hard to find in big box store. Saves a lot on cost of Sekaflex when using it to stop Sekaflex from going down into bottomless cracks!

It would be nice if this came on some type of roll that could be stored. But I can live without that since the price point was good. The product arrived in good shape and usable for my needs.

Great product. Affordable.I use it to insulate the house between floor and base board (trim). Stops bugs from entering from behind the base board and prevents drafts and lose of heat/ac.

I had never heard of backer rod. When we had to do a lot of caulking, I found out about it. HUGE home run. I used to just keep filling cracks with caulk til they "filled up". Now I ram this stuff in first, and then caulk over it. Saves super big on caulk costs. Easy to use. Just pull off what you need and ram it into the crack with a scraper. I got three sizes - kind of a small, medium, and large for different sized cracks.I got the 100' roll thinking "I'll have that forever" but you go through it faster than you would think.

Not only did this backer rod come wadded up in a bag it's horrible to work with. It breaks apart while trying to get it pushed into the gap.
