Fantastic product.I installed the hitch on a 2016 C-Max Energi. I suppose the best template for drilling is to pre-fit the hitch, but it might be helpful to come up with some sort of template to prepare the vehicle, but fitting the hitch for this isn't so tough. I removed both pairs of mounting bolts to allow the exhaust system to drop a bit more.I was concerned about how tricky fishing the new bolt and supporting washer through the body channel would be, but I found it to be straightforward. I did not need to grind the opening to get the bolt head to fit through. To prevent the bolt from getting pushed back into the body I kept the fish wire attached to the bolt until the hitch was held in place with the 4 bolts.I found that the foot sweep to open the hatch worked with the hitch installed.I do wish I could buy a hitch with a 2" receiver ... or perhaps a reasonably priced receiver-mounted cargo carrier with a 1.25" mount. Using a 2" adapter was a bit concerning, but it did extend the receiver to a more convenient location. The Curt hitch is very heavy duty and built well. The included hardware was of good quality. It served well to provide a bit more storage capacity for a small car.I recommend this hitch to anyone consider it for their C-Max.

It looks good, feels solid, has nice welds without any bubbling. Quality product. Installation instructions says it'll take 20 minutes. lol Nope. It is pretty simple to install if you are okay with drilling 2 half inch holes into your frame in addition to widening an existing hole to feed the components through. No issues during installation and I'm okay with putting those 2 holes into the frame to insure it does not leave my vehicle. Aesthetically it fits quite nicely while attaching to the frame with quality materials. Made in Wisconsin!

I read the reviews of how you had to drill two holes in the frame of your car if you have a Ford see Max energy and I didn't have the time to mess with that so I just took the hitch to U-Haul and had it installed professionally. It was quick and easy and it works great! The only downside is it's a 1 inch adapter and my bike rack is a 2 inch. However, I bought a 1 to 2 inch adapter and it works great for my bike rack. I wish they had this model that fits my C max energy that is a 2 inch. That's the only reason I'm giving it four stars. Otherwise it's excellent quality!

I was and still am very impressed with this little hitch. I was able to find an installation video online before I tried to install it which was very helpful! The instructions claim that it takes 20 minutes to install, which I think is a overly optimistic, but none the less it is straightforward and I could not be more pleased with the product and the outcome. BTW, we purchased this so we could mount our Thule bike rack.

The instruction are easy enough, but if I had to do it again I think I would just file an edge off the bolts to feed them through the access hole instead of enlarging the hole slightly.

At first went to U-Haul to have them install it but was told I'd have to leave the car all day. Decided to install it myself with a friend which took 1.5 hours and no problems and saved the $170 install fee. The wire feeder was a brilliant idea and worked as advertised. Feels really solid!

There was no mention of the mounting hardware being included with the receiver hitch so I began to look everywhere I might buy the bolts, nuts, washers...etc. It wasn't until I got the hitch and cut away the plastic wrap that I found it. Also, this frantic search was lengthened because the carrier took 4 days longer than the initial arrival date. I may alter my rating after I install it.

Okay lets be real. No regrets, but also.... I have a great big shop full of tools. I really thought this was going to be pretty plug and play, but it isn't at all. First, you have to drill 2 half inch holes in the frame of the car. This isn't the end of the world, assuming you have drill, and a drill index that goes up to 15/32. Then the larger carriage bolts don't fit through the access point in the frame of the car (mine is a 2014 C-Max BTW) It's close, not not quite there. Many people suggested grinding out the opening, I opted for grinding just a little bit off the head of the bolt. Once I got it in, it was just a matter of busting out my $200 torque wrench to make sure the bolts are properly torqued (I'm sure you could get away with not doing that, but I still did it anyway). So anyway, if you're expecting that you can do this job yourself with just a wrench, you are quite mistaken. Otherwise, it seems great. The welds appear to be solid, the material is thick, the bolts are high quality. I haven't used it yet, but I have high expectations that this will provide additional value to my vehicle, in addition to provide some important utility.
