Perfect fit. It comes with new hardware to install and decent instructions. I would use factory hardware if you can (I know it's expensive). I found take off hardware on Ebay to install mine for a lot cheaper than dealer prices. If you have a 2000 Excursion, the bolts and hardware that are sent will not work. The 01-05 trucks use the bigger hardware, but the 2000 used smaller hardware. The bigger hardware is the same stuff that they use on all the way up to the current trucks. I did not have to enlarge the holes in my frame as they were big enough for the larger bolts. I was able to install the hitch without taking the gas tank out. I had to have a buddy help and a crow bar to get the bolts in to install but I did get it done in my garage without going to a shop. If you live in the rust belt, wear glasses. The bolts came out with an impact wrench. I drilled the shear bolts out in steps and got it out without too much trouble.

Excellent product and looks great too! The only problem and it's of no fault of Curt, but Ford installs a rivet among the fastening locations that requires the complete removal of the fuel tank to remove this rivet in a Ford Excursion. Because this isn't Curt's fault, and they produce a top quality product, I give them 5 stars.

I used this hitch to replace the rusted out hitch on 2004 Excursion. Not a lot of options out there for this truck. I had to purchase some more hardware to finish my installation. The job is not easy as you will have to lower the fuel tank. To have access for the hardware. The hitch fit the frame perfectly. With a little patience you can get the job done. The hitch is heavy duty !

The hitch is good quality. Installation is difficult on an Excursion through no fault of the hitch. You have to drop the gas tank in order to install it.

Bought this for my 2001 Ford Excursion. Hitch fit great. There's a bunch of people reviewing saying the install time is way off. I thought the install time was right on. About a half hour. But, if you read the instructions on the hitch, it says BEFORE you INSTALL the hitch, UNINSTALL the old hitch. Uninstallation of the old one will take anyone hours, unless they're man enough to torch off the two shear bolts an inch and a half away from the plastic gas tank. But, Working on old beaters my whole life, I knew that, and wanted to prep and paint the frame surrounding the fuel tank and where the hitch bolted on anyway with the fuel tank out.The thing that I had a problem with, was they don't include any damn nuts with the hitch. So, presumably someone's replacing a rotten old trailer hitch like mine was, and they say "Reuse the factory nuts". Come on guys, why would I replace the hitch if all the metal was in good shape? I don't like the color? By the way, on my 2001, the bolts they sent didn't fit the stock nuts anyway. Guess Curt wanted to save $1.46 on not including nuts. I went to Tractor supply, because they're the cheapest anywhere for Grade 8 Bolts. Check it out, they sell them by the pound. They only sell SAE Grade 8, so I had to get all new bolts, Lock washers, and washers, and nuts. I bought 3/4" because I didnt' want to go smaller than stock. they are slightly bigger than stock, so I needed a 3/4" drill bit to run through the frame holes. Hitch holes were wide enough. Bolted it on, good to go.I also moved the stock wiring plug holder thing from the stock hitch to the new one. Luckily ford just bolted that on, drilled and tapped a new hole on the new hitch, fits perfect. The last complaint I have with Curt hitches, is the pin hole eggs out over time. I have a class V curt hitch, towing about 60% of its rated capacity, and it still did it.Summary: Brand New Hitch perfect fit shipped to my Door in 2 days $220, + new hardware $15, + 3/4" drill bit $15, total cost about $250. Your other two choices in the world are the stock hitch, (Identical as far as I can tell as the Curt, except the ends of the hitch body are open instead of closed, which may have contributed to rotting out in the first place, over $600. The Other choice it the torque lift hitch, very nice from what I've heard, with a capacity way bigger than the truck can tow, also over $600. To me, this hitch was the only choice. Buy 2 of everything, and you're still under the cost of the other two options by at least $100. I say Buy this hitch, just be aware of the missing Nuts.

Fit perfectly on my excursion. For those that complain about scratches, this thing is heavy, and is shipped UPS. There is no way your going to get this without minor scratches at best. It’s large, heavy, awkward to handle and I don’t think that should reflect on the product or seller. Easy touch up with black paint if desired.

The product fits great, but Curt assumes that you will re-use the factory nuts. The hitch is probably being replaced due to rust, and the nut are not going to come off nicely. The most efficient method of removing the old hitch is a torch. Here are a few things you'll need to do... 1) The factory trailer wiring is attached to a plate that wraps over the hitch beam. This plate is bolted to the hitch beam. The Curt hitch does not have the hole drilled and tapped. You will have to drill and tap the hole, or just weld the bracket to the hitch beam. Welding it is easy, and you'll be touching up the paint anyway since Amazon ships this monster without a box. 2) The fuel tank must come out. It's simple, but very tall. The bumper does NOT have to come off. 3) You'll have to buy 18mm 10.9 grade nuts to replace the factory ones. 6 of them. You'll also need 6 heavy duty washers to take the place of the plates welded to the factory nuts. And, you'll need 6 heavy duty lock washers, unless you go with lock nuts. 4) The fuel filler hoses can be pushed off at the bottom of the filler pipe (near the leaf springs) with a pair of pry bars. You don't need to remove them inside the fuel door. Trying to get the tank out with the hoses on would be a pain. Good product, but Curt needs to step up on the hardware and consider the hole for the wiring bracket.

Exact fit replacement on my ‘03 Excursion. In my opinion, I have to say that it is not possible to remove the old hitch without first removing the fuel tank, so be prepared to do that. With the fuel tank out, it is a simple yet tedious job. You will most likely need nuts for the supplied M18 mounting bolts. I had to cut mine out from 17 years of corrosion.New hitch is well built and looks strong.I recommend this product
