The drain in our basement is poorly engineered, so if there's a lot of standing water in the yard, it tends to back up into the drain and sometimes even comes into the basement. It happened again just a few weeks ago, and my father-in-law suggested I buy a plug for it. I went to a local store and they had two sizes of plugs: 2 inches and 1.5 inches. The 2-inch plug was too big, and the 1.5-inch plug was too small! My wife saw one of these adjustable plugs online, but I was skeptical whether it would work. Besides, the only place it was available was nearly an hour away, and I didn't feel like driving that far in a heavy rain, especially if I didn't think the product would work. After the crisis was over, I decided to see if one of these adjustable plugs was available on Amazon. I was still skeptical, but since it was returnable, I decided to give it a try. It works like the proverbial charm! We've had a couple of heavy rains since then, so I put the plug in the drain. The plug was wet when I took it out, so I knew the water had backed up again, but the plug didn't let even a drop into our basement.UPDATE - I used it again this past weekend during a big rainstorm, and this time we did get a bit of seepage into our basement. I prefer "seeping" to "gushing", though, so that's okay! In fairness, I think I may not have had the plug assembled correctly. Make sure the plastic cylinder at the bottom is actually inside the rubber tube before you tighten it. I don't think mine was, and if that was the case, it didn't make a perfect seal.

This worked for the cleanout plug hole in the side of a basement floor drain. I have not been able to find a real replacement so I ordered this as a stop gap. I cut down the black rubber to make it short enough to fit under the grate, but other than that it's the perfect size. 1 and 1/2 inch was the size hole I had to fill.

It is easy to install and it works. The bad thing about it is that when removing it, make sure to not unscrew the top all the way and remove it OR ELSE the other end of the plug might fall into the pipe. Yikes!

I have an old condo that has a deck with a drain. Poorly designed because the deck is covered so there was no real use for the drain……Except in a hard rain the main water runoff pipe wasn’t large enough to accommodate that much water so the water would back up into my drain. It looked like a fountain coming through my pipe and all over my deck and the same thing happened to the condos above me who had left the original decks and not enclosed them like others had.. This was my solution. Even though the pipe was old and not exact size, this product fit perfectly and tightened down well. Hoping it will solve the problem. We’ll see in the next big downpour.

So my toyhauler (camper) fresh water drain pipe busted where to pipe attaches to the tank. The tank is 1/8" thick, and 1.83" die hole.Becose this test plug is double stacked, 1.5" on the bottom and 2" on the top, it fits the hole (when sanded flush) and when tightened it expands and seales agents the tank on both sides. The only problem is that to get it tight enough I had to bevill the plastic piece that acts as an expander plug otherwise it will lock up and make it really hard to extract. This holds tight, is perfect for the job that is was not designed for, and if I was using it for what it was designed for (a pipe wall that has a seal surface of 2 in instead of a tank that is only 1/8" thick.) It would not be hard to remove. But I'm using it wrong and it still works.

So it seals really well. Almost to well. I do alot of custom tile showers and pans as a tile contractor and After doing a 24 hour flood test in the shower pan this plug was so tight it was almost permanently stuck in the drain pipe. Took 30 minutes or more and 10 tools to pry this out of the drain hole. It should not be that hard to remove this drain plug. Was terrified of breaking the plug and having it get stuck inside the pipe. Yes it was that tight. So my suggestion would be try not to over tighten it or just pick a different plug all together. I am now scared to use this again and have since purchased another plug. The inflatable ones are better.

2 things wrong with this product.1. This plug works if you want a permanent plug for your drain or pipe. Once you tighten it by closing the hand screw which pulls the plastic stopper part up into the rubber housing. What this does is it increases the diameter of the rubber part to seal up the pipe. Great...that's what we want. The problem is if you ever need to remove the plug to service the drain then untighting the hand screw literally does nothing. The plastic stopper is stuck in the rubber housing FOREVER.2. But let's say you don't screw the plastic stopper part too much so when you untighten the hand screw, you are able to remove the plug. If you have a vertical drain, then you will LOSE the plastic stopper part down the drain. Yes, that's right, there is nothing that prevents the stopper from dropping down your drain. You need to REMEMBER that this is the terribly designed plug you bought maybe a year ago and you need to hold onto the threaded screw while you untighten the plug. If you forget, this maybe a bigger headache for you as you will need to retrieve it somehow.Do not buy this product. It is a great idea...but poorly executed.

I was having trouble finding something that would fit the cleanout hole of the floor drain in basement, sewer gas would make it's presence known. I seen this and gave it a shot. Fits perfectly and no more foul aroma's.
