I’ve been using this type of strings, off and on, for 30+ years. From my Gibson Ripper to my Fender Jazz, these strings have consistently given me the round wound sound I desire. They may not be the most expensive or the most popular but they’re resistant to corrosion and are sonically reliable with every set purchased.

I’ve been a huge fan of blue steel strings since a dear friend of mine / musician , had given me a set in the mid 90s and said he swore by these on tour as well as in the studio and ever since and I’ve been a huge fan!A high-quality string with a great sound, and for any musician who records, you know the need to find a consistent quality string so that you can keep your tone and have one less thing to worry about in the studio.Highly recommend.

I tried D'Addarios, RotoSound, Fender, Elixir, Ernie Ball, and possibly one or two others I don't recall. Came across the Dean Markley 'Blue Steels' at a NAMM show years ago; two-sets for the price of one. Stringed my Fender 'P', let the neck settle in, tuned, set-up, and played through an SWR-400 w/4.1x10 Hartke. Punchy, but not too bright or tinny. Low-end, sustain and slightly growling or staccato. With proper care, I have played on these strings through two-months of rehearsals, and first half of a three week run. They can be a little difficult to find at the music stores... ordered two-sets for pick-up at Amazon 'Hub'. Won't make that mistake again.

Based mostly on the two glowing reviews here, I took a shot on these Dean Markley strings despite my general loyalty to Ernie Ball. One word: TWANG. These strings have a bright tone and unmistakable twang to them. I wasn't too surprised when I learned recently that the Dead Milkmen's Dave Blood used to use these strings (the bright, twangy sound is audible on many of their songs-- "I am the Walrus" off the Bucky Fellini album is a notable example). I can see how this sound might work for some people's music, but it wasn't quite what I was looking for, as I wanted a mellower, less piercing sound. That said, they are clearly high quality strings, and I would recommend them for anyone looking for that distinctive sound.

I personally love these strings and have been using them for about 30 years. I like them for guitar and bass. I am usually using drop D or C tuning so I prefer the heaviest gauge versions available (drop D or heavy for guitar and extra medium for bass) and they get great sustain at low tuning (I recently bought a fender meterora bass and the strings that came with it would just flap around, I was so happy after I replaced them with heavier gauge blue steels, it was like a totally different guitar after the change over). For me the these achieve the perfect tone, nice and bright. Strings preference is always a personal choice so I can't say if these are right for everyone. But they are top quality and I rarely have an break while playing and I definitely have never had any break during installation.

These strings are AWESOME!!!! If my bass didn't have these strings on it, I'd probably set it on fire! It's not even worth playing without THESE STRINGS!!!! If you're not using Dean Markley Blue Steels, you're obviously a complete amateur poser with no life and no future!!!! I can't believe you even bother wasting the planet's air if you don't have Dean Markley Blue Steel Strings!!!! Punch yourself in the face right now if you don't immediately install Dean Markley Blue Steel Strings!!!! Just stop being a musician!!!! Even if you play the tuba, you should have Dean Markley Blue Steel Strings on it!!!! Get some for your Stradivarius! Put a set on your banjo! If you don't play anything, get something and put Dean Markley Blue Steel Strings on it, QUICK!!!! Before it's too late!!!!Just kidding, but they are really good strings. Nice bright tone, no duds. With proper care, they last a pretty good while, too. Great value, even though you can find less expensive strings. Sometimes you get what you pay for, right?

I'm absolutely blown away by these strings. They are easily the most crisp sounding and satisfying string's I've ever played! The tonality on these things is just something to behold, it's like playing springs rather than strings!I'm in love with the Dean Markley blue steels now. They have a beautifully snappy feel to them when I play, and they're SUPER DUPER slappable.Sound-wise, they're fantastically bright, and "snappy" like I said. The only way I can describe it is like a really snappy and hard hitting mid range with a super crisp, almost electric sounding high-end. These strings manage this while maintaining a nice tight low-end that carries this really deep and satisfying growl. What I really love is how ridiculously versatile the sound from these strings is.I swear, they're incredible for a slap playing style with a really in your face twang on the pull offs that supplements the low growl and crispy mids. Finger style playing feels great on the blue steels. Like I said, it's like I'm playing springs: there's no awkward floppiness and they just spring right back to your fingers. (Not to mention: these things freaking LAST)In honesty: words can't do this product justice, so let's hope a five star rating does. I'm totally in love with Dean Markley strings now, and I'm yet to find a better sounding set than the blue steels.

The strings on my bass has never been changed since 2013, and finally the G broke in 2024 Dandiya. I just replaced one string from this set and it blended great with the other old strings. So I'm currently using other strings to dry my clothes until needed.
