Improve performance with DEI Exhaust Wrap. Wrapping headers and down pipes is an important first step in controlling unwanted under-hood radiant heat. Keeping exhaust gases hotter within the exhaust system helps in decreasing exhaust density and increases exhaust flow. This improves exhaust scavenging resulting in cooler air intake temperatures for an improvement in performance and a gain in horsepower. Design Engineering stainless steel Locking Ties (sold separately) are the perfect way to fasten exhaust wrap for a easy, clean and professional installation. Design Engineering Hi-Temp Silicone Coating Spray (sold separately) is highly recommended for DEI glass fiber wrap to penetrate, seal, protect and prolong the lifespan of exhaust wrap. Note about Titanium Exhaust Systems: DEI does NOT recommend wrapping Titanium exhausts. The alloys used in the production of titanium exhaust systems tend to be thin and are designed to dissipate heat quickly. By wrapping the exhaust, the additional heat can make the titanium alloy turn brittle and prone to premature cracking. DEI recommends using alternatives such as their flexible heat shields when seeking to reduce the heat on titanium exhaust systems.

Used several times over the years the Design Engineering Wraps of different sizes. This time it was for the two exhaust manifolds of the V6 engine in my Jeep. For this kind of application, you will need the narrowest wrap available, as you will have to make some tight and short turns and it is difficult to cover the manifold entirely, due to shape and design. It takes some time until the stinky smell fades away; the closest to engine, the sooner. As you wrap the exhaust pipes further down and away form the engine and the catalytic converter(s), it will take longer (even weeks). So far, I am completely satisfied with the product and with the job that I did. Made the engine compartment quieter and helps the overall exhaust system to warm up faster, reducing also significantly the condensation towards the tail pipe, which will make the pipe and the muffler to last longer. [Condensation starts and accelerates rust and corrosion from inside out]I will buy the wrap(s) as needed for other projects.UPDATE: used a roll of Black 1" wide wrap for another exhaust pipe project. Can tell for sure: if you have some pipes with some tight turns, better go for the narrowest you can find, even if that means you will have to use more of it. The wider wraps are more suitable for long lengths of straight pipe and are a lot more difficult to pull and stretch for a tight coverage.I also prefer the Black wrap, as it already has the coating on it, which will make it last longer. However at the end I applied some Rust-Oleum HIGH HEAT (or Ultra High Heat) specialty paint, designed for grills. In my opinion it does a better job than other brands and it does not start to peel-off later.

I bought this to help keep my engine bay temps down for by turbo setup and it worked great! Easy to follow instructions and easy to put on. At first it had a burning smell as it broke in but after a bit it was fine and it helped tremendously. I don't have numbers as to the change because I installed this along with the turbo but my bay stayed fairly cool along with the help of a turbo blanket. I would recommend this product.

I had always been intrigued by the look of older cafe racer motorcycles which had the header wrap on them. I know this stuff works great for race cars but I was looking for something to distinguish my bike a bit more from the others out there. Also, the bike I have, Ducati Diavel, gets extremely hot on the right leg since both the pipes are right there.First thing I can say is Im glad I got the 50ft size. Even though my pipes arent that long, I ended up cutting the first set too short and also I made a few mistakes. I also was a bit lazy and didnt wet the wrap when putting it on. My best advice is to get the wrap wet! The fiberglass gets EVERYWHERE when this is dry and being bent. Im also glad I wore long sleeves and a mask based on my research. If you dont wear long sleeves you will get fiberglass all over your arms and you will be itching for days.Anyway, I got the wrap on and it looked awesome. Some people on the forums didnt like it but everyone who saw it in person think it really sets the bike off. For me it was function over form(although the form didnt hurt). I can say that the heat on my right leg is significantly less and the engine temp when sitting in traffic was down about 15 degrees. One caveat; when the wrap is getting heated up on the first few rides/drives, it will smoke. My bike looked like it was on fire there was so much smoke billowing out from the wrap. After a couple times though it was gone and everything was normal.

The myth is still going strong that this somehow makes horsepower. I did not buy it for that reason, dont you think every exhaust in the world would have this on new cars since its $10 to do it? anyway I purchased it for heat control of my motorcycle exhaust and it works great. My feel are no longer on fire. I do also like the old school look of it and thats the 2nd reason I bought it. Does the bike go any faster? no, does it make power? not in this application. buy it and enjoy it! as always ships quick through amazon prime. Only reason for 4 starts is that DEI are the only ones saying it makes HP on anything....

I had ordered a new header and exhaust for my '78 MGB and while waiting for it to arrive I decided I liked the look of wrapped headers. After researching all the alternatives I decided on this product primarily because of the relatively low cost; my MG is not a hot rod so performance and temperature rating were secondary. I bought the 50' roll because too much would be better than too little and I wanted to install the exhaust ASAP. 50' was too much but I have no regrets because I think 25' would not have been enough. I read the directions (it's not rocket surgery) and had no problems installing it. I simply "dry" wrapped each section first, added about 10" and cut it. Soaking it in water (per the directions) made it pliable and easy to work with; it takes the form and stays in place when wet. I did notice with the wetted material if you're wrapping it tightly it tends to narrow the width only (not the length). One section I had to re-wrap (with the same piece originally cut) a few times- each with less tension, to cover the entire section and the extra 10" was definately needed. To give you some perspective I used 4 sections for the header totaling about 30'. The short sections were 5', and the longest about 15' (this was the one I had to wrap a few times to cover the entie length). I'm glad I bought it; easy to install and I like the look.

The material is pretty easy to stretch and manipulate. I think the 1.5" version would have been a better bang for the buck. It does the job of keeping the heat down well. The smell that it creates initially is kind of obnoxious. I've run it on my motorcycle for a couple of weeks now and can still smell it when I'm sitting in traffic. Hoping it goes away soon.

Great product! Most definitely lowered the temperature in my engine bay. I used this to wrap my custom header on my Toyota 2TC engine that in swapped into my 1986 Corolla GTS. The header was running extremely hot. The radiant heat was hot enough that it was very uncomfortable to have your hands around the header even 2 feet away. The wrap drastically dropped the temperatures. I wish I would have had a temp gun to measure the difference but I can safely work around the exhaust while the engine is running. This kit was enough to wrap my header and I had enough to wrap my friend's turbo exhaust manifold for his SR20 engine. For my header I wrapped 2 pipes dry before reading that moistening the wrap helps with installation. For my friend's turbo manifold, I dipped the wrap in water rather than patting it down with water. If you wet the wrap this way, carefully press the water out and do not wring out the water my twisting it as you might ruin the weaving. It does get messy so find a nice big bench to work on and wear gloves to prevent any of the material from getting into your hands.I purchased the DEI high temp silicone coating and some locking ties also. I may have went overboard with the amount of coats as the burning smell stuck around for a few days. The coating is to help seal the wrap and prevent fraying. I've had the header wrapped for about 2 months and everything still looks like the day I sealed it.

Been on my motorcycle for two years now. Holds up well. Little bit of fraying over time. But over all good product.

Good quality product. Used it to wrap my Yamaha Zuma exhaust pipe just for the look. Looks cool. I recommend spraying the wrap with water from a spray bottle as you install, it helps keep the fibreglass out of the air and off your hands. Also helps to wear latex gloves. You’ll need stainless steel zip ties to secure the ends. I got my SS zip ties from the local dollar store.
