The Design Engineering Versa-Shield was designed to protect starters from potential failure caused by under-hood heat soak conditions. Constructed using an aluminized heat reflective material backed with a hi-temp rated glass fiber insulation barrier, Versa-Shield is capable of reflecting radiant heat up to 2000 degrees Fahrenheit. Simply wrap the desired component with Versa-Shield and trim excess material. Edges attach to itself using a hook & loop edge closure design. In most cases there is no need to remove the component when installing Versa-Shield.

I installed one of these to protect a new starter motor on my classic car. The starter is positioned above the exhaust headers, and would get cooked over time. This heat shield installed in seconds, and is adjustable for my specific starter motor. Six months on, it is working great and keeping the starter cool.

Like the title states, will fit on any 5th generation (2010-2015) Chevrolet Camaro SS starter motor. It fits perfectly around the starter, and you SHOULD use some form of zip ties (metal preferably), in order to keep the heat wrap material from undoing the only velcro keeping it together…I was able to re-use the factory heat shield that goes to the starter, and it helps to further hold the heat-resistant wrap in place. So, to anyone looking to solve their “hot start” Chevy/GM starter issues, this is one of the remedies to do so. If you run stainless steel long tube headers or any aftermarket headers with no heat shields or ceramic coating, this is an inevitable issue with heatsoak that will encounter…You’ll also want to get extra ground cables (switch to starter cables work well) and place them in the trunk, where the battery is. 4-gauge is good for what I used, and the ~3/8” opening on both ends will fit on the ground bolt in the trunk, and also to the ground on the chassis/frame, in the engine bay. In the engine bay, you’ll connect one end to the ground that is connected to the engine block on the driver’s side; right underneath the front most head bolt.

I installed this on the small block chevy in my 71 el camino. I just installed headers and most of you I'm sure know that headers "heat" and GM starters don't play well together. I wrapped this around the starter at the time of the header install and it seams to be working fine. It installed very easily. I recommend it.

I installed this DEI heat shield wrap over a new mini starter on a SB Chevy engine. I did trim off part of the end of the wrap so the foil would not short out against the battery wire connector on the end of the solenoid. I also secured the wrap with a SS zip tie around the starter. This heat shield, along with wrapping the exhaust pipe with header wrap, should cure the starter heat soak problem I was having.

My old stock Chevy starter got heat soak a couple of times then died. I put in a new mini starter and this cover was a perfect fit. DEI makes a good product!

Fits Ford Powerstroke starter perfect. Fast and easy install with hook and loop stays on. Reflective material and reasonably thick fibers look like they will provide more than good enough insulation for this purpose.

Great product. However if you are buying it for a 6th gen camaro, buy some heat wrap for it because these cars have a notorious heat soak issue (you probably knew that if you are looking at buying this anyway). Also expect it to be an absolute prick to install. We took out the passenger side cat to get to it. Extra bit of advice for you 6th gen guys and gals, consider purchasing an extra grounding cable and installing it from the bell housing to the frame. The Camaros have inadequate grounding which causes resistance and therefore even more heat. Trust me you won’t want to make this starter install ever again. Buy the ground cable to help ensure your starter doesn’t get cooked again. You’re welcome. Good luck out there.

Well made seems like it should last. This is the smaller size, mine went on a newer Mopar starter and fit perfect, should other "mini" starters.

Its large enough to wrap around starter and solenoid on GM Big block starter. Cut off the excess and wrap the extra piece over the solenoid, attach with a couple of zip ties. Seal the blanket with some CA glue across the seam.
