  • MAX7219 is an integrated serial input / output common-cathode display driver, which connects your microprocessor to a 7-segment digital LED display with 8 digits; MAX7219 digital display control module, you can use it for Ar-duino.
  • The module is compatible of 5V / 3.3V microcontroller; Only three IO ports are used to drive the eight digit display.
  • Only three IO ports are used to drive the eight digit display. MAX7219 supports flicker free displays as well as cascading displays; PCV board four corners of the fixed copper stud, which can effectively precent short circuit accidents happen.
  • Wiring instructions (a program, for example, you can pick any IO port definition can be modified in the program): VCC to 5V, GND to GND, DIN to P00, CLK to P02, CS to P01; Digital tube is 0.36 inch 4-bit integrated cathode digital tube; Common cathode.
  • Note:VCC and GND do not reversed, it would burn the chip.51 MCU P0 port requires pull-up resistor, if your device does not have a pull-up resistor can be connected to other ports data lines.

Description:
MAX7219 is an integrated serial input / output common-cathode display drivers, which connects the microprocessor and 8 bit 7-segment digital LED display, you can also connect a bar graph display or 64 separate LED. Includes an on-chip type B BCD encoders, multi-channel scanning loop, segment word driver, but also a 8x8 static RAM that stores each data. Only one external register is used to set the current of each LED segment.
A convenient four-wire serial interface can connect all common microprocessor. Each data can be addressed in the update without rewriting all displays. MAX7219 also allows the user to select each data encoding or no coding.
The entire device includes a 150μA low-power shutdown mode, analog and digital brightness control, a scan-limit register allows the user to display 1-8 bit data, there is an all LED light detection mode.

This 4-pack of MAX7219 8-digit LED display modules is a fantastic value for adding bright and clear displays to your projects. The modules are easy to control using the MAX7219 driver chip, and the cascading capability allows you to easily connect multiple displays together for larger displays. I've been using them to display sensor readings and other data in my Arduino projects, and they've been working flawlessly. The brightness is excellent, and the displays are easy to read even from a distance.

Did not work for long. Starts intermittent with very little usage. More than 50% defective.

Bought 4, Connected to Arduino Nano and first one lasted about 45 seconds then seem to short out and stopped responding all together. Then connected it to Arduino Uno, but still nonfunctional. Second 4 digits intermittent display indicates bad or loose connection from factory,Tried a second one and it functions perfectly with great versatility.I would give them 5 stars but for the defective one.

super compact, worked really well with my Pico2 with micro python. Had to convert some code snippets from a C library but got it to chitchat no problem for a fun little exercise on learning how to address a chip's registers directly. There are a few libraries for C so it's not a problem there if you go that route. LEDs are super bright at max intensity. Great little boards offer a ton of old school LED panel looks for your project. No real documentation from the vendor but some googling for the driver IC MAX7219 will start turning up results to get you in the right direction.

Good quality, easy to use displays. No issues with soldering and nice and bright. Not much to say about these, they're pretty standard units. Good buy!
