I haven't tried anything crazy with this, but so far readings have been consistent and in-line with what I'd expect. The interface is straight forward, and the addition of temperature data is a nice touch. It would have been nice if there was a 1/4"-20 thread on the bottom or something similar to make it easier to mount this. Overall the construction seems pretty solid and it seems like it'll last.

I got this to help figure out when it was ok to fly my drone. It hasn’t been very windy lately which was good for determining the meter’s low wind speed limits. On a still day the blades don’t turn until I start to walk and then it measures 1 to 2 mph which is about right. For higher speeds I used my car with the cruise control set to 30 mph with my arm out the window. The meter showed somewhere between 28 and 32 mph depending on where I held the meter. The fan blades make quite a bit of noise at 30 mph. I didn’t try any speeds over 30 since that seemed unsafe.I also used this meter to measure airflow at my HVAC vents. One thing that becomes obvious is that the meter is very sensitive to the direction of the air. If I angle it slightly the readings start falling off quickly, reaching 0 when turned 90 degrees from the airflow. In practice I learned to angle the meter until I got the maximum speed. It’s a little difficult because readings are averaged over half a second so you have to change angles slowly. The other thing to note about using this meter, or for that matter, any small meter when measuring airflow at a vent, is that the airflow varies a lot in different parts of the vent. I got readings from 2.8 to 7.2 mph in opposite corners of my return vent. If you measure the same spot on the vent you can compare readings over time to see if there is a restriction. And you might be able to compare various vents as long as they are the same size and the inlets come in at the same angle. But to really get a good idea of airflow at a vent you need take measurements over the entire vent and average them. This meter doesn’t record values so it’s pretty time consuming to average multiple readings. The meter will report maximum wind speed which is handy for capturing gusts, but it lacks the ability to report the average wind speed for any period over half a second. So overall I think this is a good anemometer for drone flying, sailing and simple HVAC testing, but it has some limitations.
