I was pleasantly surprised by the performance of the level. I compared it with a machinist's level which is accurate to thousanths of a inch over ten feet and it did pretty well. Right out of the box the unit was, as advertised, within .1 degree at zero - not perfect but very good. Can't say how accurate it is off zero as I did not have the time to do a more complete test. The reading is not instantaneous, it sometimes takes a few seconds to settle, but it is far faster to use than the machinist's level. It is great for quick, rough setups which then can be refined with the other level if needed.

This is a replacement for an ancient Craftsman digital torpedo level that was misplaced in a move. This has a nice weight and balance. It is not as handy as my 6" Craftsman, but still a good length. To be water resistent, the battery cover (it doesn't come with AAA's) is secured with very small phillips head screws that are installed so tight that the cheap provided screw driver was stripped out without getting a screw out. Fortunately I had a good quality tiny screwdriver, that did the job, not worth taking away a star! Seems to work fine!

Looks cool, but not a good reason to buy. The following are good reasons to buy this level:1 It water resistant. It has a sealed battery case on the back. You can use it outside in the wet. Very well built.2 I bought it to measure grade on my HO layout, which works, and I found out my trains were going up a higher grade than expected.

Does not come with batteries. So you must use their included screw driver to remove 4 screws to gain access. It worked for 1 screw. The remainder were so tight it was impossible to remove and stripped out, making the item completely worthless!! Waste of time and money!!
