This part worked well for my 85 dodge w250. I did have to purchase it three times…. The first time the old cable was to long the other times I cut it to short the final time I measured 5or six times…. If you aren’t rushing to get it done it will fit.

I run wiring through vehicles and trailers on a daily basis and sometimes need something slightly rigid and yet flexible for pushing and pulling wires through those difficult spots. I used to use a speedometer cable years ago when I was much younger, but drifted away from using one when I got older as a way to cut back on what was in my toolbox. It's been 20 yrs and I'm going back to using one. It makes life so much easier when you have to pull wire through conduit on a trailer because it's rigid enough to push through to the end of most conduit sections, and it holds the wire very well when taped using good quality electrical tape such as Scotch 33+. At times I have to pull wires through the rubber wiring tubes in car doors and rear lift gates. I've been using a flexible antenna rod, but know this cable will work much better like the old days. Keep in mind that this cable is only about 6 feet long in case you need to pull longer distances.

Actually, I didn't buy this to repair a speedometer, but to use as a 'snake' to unclog the sun roof drains on my wife's vehicle. Chucked it into my cordless drill and gently ran it through the length of each drain. 'Worked a treat' as they say in England. It probably even works to repair a speedometer! :-)

I'm using this bare speedometer cable core for an animatronic tail/tentacle "spine". This works wonderfully for this purpose, and relatively inexpensive. No need to buy the full speedometer cable assembly from a local auto parts store and de-construct it... this is exactly what you want. (See my review on "Cable Mechanism Basics - Tentacles".)Use a good cable cutter to cut this to the desired length; I suggest leaving a little extra which you can trim later.Attached photo shows 3D printed "vertebrae", with fishing line for pulling force, and Dorman 03368 speedometer cable as the "spine". This works great for this purpose.

bought to replace broken inner cable of out of production old tachometer cable. Easy to work with but not universally applicable because of the flange on the square-end attachment.
