The decoupler pulley is an exact replacement for the factory item. On the Town & Country, I found it necessary to unbolt the alternator (after disconnecting the battery and wiring to the alternator) and rotate it in place so that the shaft end of the alternator could be reach by the tools needed to remove the pulley. The removal was easy; the loosening and removal of the three alternator bolts was a bit trickier. But we now have a quieter running vehicle!

Worked just fine. If you have a Chrysler be sure you have the right wrench set for this. I could borrow one from the local auto parts store but it didn't fit. Needless to say i had to wait a few more days to order the right one. NOT a fault of the pulley just something for a do-it-yourself mechanic to be aware of. Still was way cheaper than a new alternator.

After replacing the tensioner and idler pulley the van still made noise. Never knew the alternator decoupler pulley existed. Probably best to buy the kit that includes the tensioner, idler pulley, alternator pulley, and belt. Replace everything while you have everything apart. Will report back if the new part has issues. YouTube University has lots of videos to help with the job.

Normally I really like Dorman products, but I’m not so sure about this one. It did fit my 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan w/ 3.3l motor. However, the threads went up higher than the original, making it impossible to hold the shaft while trying to tighten the new pulley down. I “bumped” it on with my impact wrench but not sure if I got it tight enough since the shaft spun with it. It did fix my growing noise coming from under the hood.

I have an 2001 Grand Caravan with a 3.3L engine. On start up, I would occasionally hear a metallic noise, like a large washer rattling, then stop. It got to the point where I could hear it almost every time at startup. I decided to remove the serpentine belt to see if the noise went away & it did. I traced it back to the decoupler pulley on the rebuilt alternator. I took off the plastic cover & found a lot of rust/metal shavings behind the cover. I took off the alt it inspect. I decided to replace just the pulley because the bearings & brushes in the rebuild looked good. I borrowed the pulley installation kit from the auto parts store to install this Dorman pulley, which fit perfectly. 30 minutes later I was back on the road.

Don't have to have the special tool if you have a 1/2 inch impact and a large Allen head. Will zip off and on pretty easy.
