I purchased these not knowing if there was exposed metal on the "interior" side of the plug. Neither the amazon listing, nor the Dorman website, showed the metal on the "interior" side. I was hoping that these would be equivalent to the papco-Hillman E-Z SEAL expansion plugs (263 series), which do not have any metal in contact with the "interior" side. I think that the Dorman product has some type of yellow zinc plating, which may (or may not) suffice for corrosion protection.I'm using these to seal openings in 750 liter plastic containers that I use to capture rainwater for gardening, I hope they will perform as well as the papco-Hillman product which has become very expensive and hard to source. Note that I have recently purchased more of these containers, hence my need for more plugs.But I am concerned about the carriage bolt and washer exposed to the rainwater, and creating a potential leak-path. That seems to be an unnecessary risk, whether sealing automotive anti-freeze, or another fluid. Time will tell if these will perform as well as the 22-year-old papco products that I'm using. By which I mean, the papco plugs have been in service for 22 years, trouble free.I hope this information is helpful to someone.
