I received this part today to replace the defective actuator (GM# 26013495) on my 1996 Chevrolet Silverado K1500. I installed it without issue except for the electrical connector. The one that comes attached to this item is designed for vehicles manufactured before 01-02-1996. If you have a newer vehicle (like I do) you will have to cut off the connector from the new actuator and attached the one from your old actuator. The actuator still works, but it would have been nice to have a "Plug N' Play" installation.After ordering this item I did discover that it might be possible to use a newer design -- and supposedly better -- actuator. (Maybe that explains why the electrical connector fits older model trucks?) Amazon carries this newer model in the form of the "Dorman OE Solutions 4WD Actuator 600-101". Since I did not install this newer design, I cannot say for sure that it will work in older model trucks. However, I did read a number of posts on websites in which the writers claim to have installed the newer model without any problems. I wish I would have known about this newer design before I ordered the 600-100 model.I also discovered that Amazon sells a 'manual' actuator system. The part for my truck is the "Posi-Lok PSL600 4x4 for GM / Chevy", but Amazon carries this design for other trucks as well. This system is significantly more expensive, but it also offers benefits over the standard electromechanical designs. It also takes much more effort/skills to install.******2011/10/23 UpdateI decided to update this review because I recently replaced this actuator with a and a . Even though this thermal actuator works just as good as the GM one it replaced, it was still extremely slow to engage my front axle. As stated above, after I purchased the Dorman 600-100 actuator I discovered that the 600-101 actuator could be installed as a replacement. Recently, however, I discovered that Dorman came out with a wiring harness kit that drastically simplifies the conversion process.Installing the 600-101 actuator is as simple as installing this thermal actuator. The only difficulty I encountered was splicing one wire of the Dorman harness into my truck's wiring harness. The main problem I had was locating the proper wire on my truck. (I have since posted pictures of the location of the wire on the 600-600's page.) Now that I have these two new items installed, my 4X4 engages in a matter of a couple of seconds. No more waiting 30 seconds (in warm weather) to 90 seconds (in the dead of winter)! Even though my Dorman thermal actuator was still working, I don't regret spending the additional money for the new actuator and harness. [I do regret having spent the money on the Dorman 600-100 ;)].

This is an electrical control to set (or unset) 4 wheel drive. I ordered one for my truck. It arrived damaged - the insulation immediately behind the switch was broken. Returned the item and received a replacement. The insulation on the replacement was broken in almost the same place as the original. The problem is in the interior - not an Amazon - box. The switch is allowed to slide in back and forth within the box so the mass of the switch itself can break the insulation and possibly the wiring going into the switch. I don't recommend installing these switches.

Part works perfect. Easy installation. Takes longer to jack vehicle than it does to change the part. A little pricy and took a long time to get it.
