My 01 Grand Prix tripped a CEL with code P0446, and at the same time became very difficult to refuel. The fuel pump would not run without cutting off. This part was the culprit. The same part fits many GM products. Here is how to change it on this car. Probably most W-bodies 97-03 at least are very similar.Raise the car safely and remove the left rear wheel. Next remove the plastic wheel liner as follows:There are two Phillips screws in the rear end of the rocker panel cover. Remove the bottom one. To the right and left of the strut are 10mm nuts on studs, remove those. Under the bottom of the bumper cover behind the wheel are two panel pop-buttons. Pull the center lock pin and remove those. Now you can wriggle the liner out. This canister hangs on a metal bracket near the filler neck. It is locked onto the bracket by a metal tang you can't reach or see. This is the easy way to get it out:Unplug the electrical connector. Straight down from the bottom of the canister about 4 inches you will see a 10mm bolt head in the metal bracket. Remove it, and the bracket will come loose with the canister attached. Now you can easily remove the hose from the canister and get the canister out from the car.Pry up on the center tang with a screwdriver and you can pull the old canister off of the bracket.Put the new one on the bracket the same way and reassemble in reverse order. On some cars, including this one, the plug from the car fits the pigtail provided. On others you will need to unplug the pigtail from the new canister and plug the connector in there. Not difficult at all, and you just saved hundreds on a repair bill.

This is great replacement for my 2005 Grand Prix. Looks just like the OEM part but much cleaner. Not too hard to install as long as the clip hasn't rusted to the car (mine had and took some wigglin for sure to get loose).

On my 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix GT, check engine light with P0449 and P0455 codes. First indication of a problem was a loose gas cap indication, only later it became a MIL (check engine light). This Evap canister was a direct replacement for the original old one. The Evap canister is located below the filler cap inside the bumper cover, very awkward to get to and especially getting the old one off the holder assembly but can be done without removing the wheel and the splash guard. On removing my old one, the fault can clearly be seen, a split in the plastic where the solenoid plunger is located letting outside air in and probably a stuck solenoid. Dont forget, also check the fuse for the Evap canister (labelled "canister" - 10A) located in the fuse holder to the right of the dashboard behind the removeable panel.
