I have a 99 Jeep Cherokee xj with the 4.0, even though I didn't have an check engine code the bad solenoid was causing hesitation when it's cold, the gas nozzle to click off early and the gas cap to hiss when I open it. In the two weeks I've installed the dorman EVAP purge solenoid It's not doing any of that anymore, it was a great price and it was easy to install!

In troubleshooting a 2001 Dodge van, this part was replaced along with the leak detection pump, some hoses, and the gas cap. It turns out there was a small leak at the top of the gas tank, which Seal-All patched so the vehicle would pass inspection. Even though this purge valve was not the part that was causing the problem, it was installed at the time of the vehicle inspection, so it allowed the vehicle to work properly and keep the codes off. If you know you need this part, this one works fine. The one I received was made in China. If you would like to read how I fixed the problem, read on. This started with small leak code P0442, but I couldn't find anything with a smoke test, so I followed other internet advice and started looking at the purge control solenoid and the leak detection pump. I disassembled and cleaned them, and thought I reassembled them correctly, but then I started getting codes P0441, P0455, and P1494. Figuring my old parts were now malfunctioning, I bought replacement parts, but still had codes. I performed smoke tests before and didn't find anything, but then saw smoke at the leak detection pump filter. This is normal, since the port to this filter is open when the car is off, and presents the largest "leak" when smoke testing. In order to seal the system, this port must be plugged. I disconnected the large hose going to the leak detection pump (not the one going to the filter) and shoved in a screwdriver with a handle that plugged the hose. Now when performing the smoke test, the system was sealed and smoke was quickly seen when the gas cap was removed, and when pulling other hoses to check. With all of the hoses connected and the gas cap tight, smoke came from the top of the gas tank at a molding seam near a hose connection toward the front of the car. I dropped the tank and applied Seal-All to the hole, which fixed the problem, turned off the codes, and allowed the car to pass inspection. The smoke test was nothelpful until I plugged the large hose to the leak detection pump. Of course, once the diagnostic work is complete, unplug and reattach all of the hoses as they should be for normal operation. This is the smoke tester I used: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08HY3RNFS

I had a rough idling everytime I filled up for rough 2-3 minutes. I ordered a new purge valve and replaced the new one with the old one. After doing so I no longer have a rough idle after refueling. Will update if this product takes a crap on me or starts making a noise. October 8th 2024.

Great price bought it back in mid April and just got to working on truck now June 14th. Installed it, drove it around and code came back on did it again after resetting it same thing happened. Tested it and never worked from day 1 out of the box. my fault for waiting this long to working on it and passed me refund deadline but I guess story holds true that it's a very disposable world and that they continue to make crap Good Luck

I did have to ask fellow customers of Amazon.ca on a ticking matter concerning this Dorman Purge Valve and all the answers were very helpful in one way or another. I wasn't exactly sure on how a purge valve worked and quickly learned that it purges gas fumes into the engine to be burned upon combustion instead of releasing into the outside air. Awsome!Did not know... was that when initially installed (new) that after the engine warms up this valve will make a ticking sound; meaning that the little pump inside it is working until it reaches the pressure that it's supposed to reach and the ticking noise will stop. If it doesn't stop ticking, that tells you that you have a leak in one of your hoses. In this Dorman purge valve there are two hoses. In a tightly sealed system, hoses are good, pump is good, this purge valve will kick in every now and then when it is supposed to.The reason I did change my purge valve, old to new, was that I was getting a lot of gas fumes and what seemed as though my engine were flooding. Not all times but every now and then. Sometimes even stalling as though my engine couldn't idle.I am very pleased with how this purge valve is working and very thankful for answers I did receive upon my query.

No more ticking/knocking sound, and better fuel economy. Worth the money and couldn't be a easier job, probably 30 seconds in total. update a week later a little tick has started again but not even close to what it was before. Still worth it imo
