Had problems w/ sloppy steering on the highway for years w/ this truck. All new steering & front end components.Decided to replace the power steering pump as it was leaking and weak. Tried to transfer the EVO Solenoid thing, didn't have power steering at all w/ brand new pump.Installed this, which replaces the fitting in the pump that has one with a slightly smaller hole and a tube that essentially puts the line in the same place that the EVO solenoid had it.Power steering has never been better, tight and super responsive at idle and down the highway.

I started having problems with the power steering on my 1998 2-Door Tahoe. I replaced the Gearbox and power steering pump with NEW units and decided to not reconnect the EVO. I installed the new pressure valve in the power steering pump using the included fitting. From that point on, my steering felt like it was on FULL assist ALL the time, and it felt extremely dangerous on the freeways. I was swerving all over the place! I was so afraid that someone was going to cut me off and that I would react as usual except with the power steering the way it was, I would over-correct. This could provedisastrous in a lifted truck at high speeds. After a few months of white-knuckled driving when I drove this truck, I decided to give this EVO bypass kit a try.I was able to install it without removing the power steering pump from underneath the vehicle. (It was hard to do because of the limited space, but it can be done).PROBLEM SOLVED.My Tahoe feels like a normal truck now!Note: I happened to have a new high pressure power steering line from a 1983 Chevy K10 (1/2 ton 4wd pickup) and it fit the 98 Tahoe perfectly, with the correct bends, length and thread size. I only used the fitting and not the U shaped adapter because I didn't need it.I highly recommend this fix. It's unbelievable that such a small difference in the diameter of the hole in the fitting made such a big difference!

This bolted right to the steering pump to bypass the variable steering solonid (I thought it was leaking, but turned out the pump itself was leaking). But steering is now nice and smooth and no codes were thrown when leaving the VSS connector unplugged. If your VSS is leaking, this is a good quality fix.

Perfect fit from Dorman and addresses the EVO power steering solenoid issue for a fraction of the OEM GM/Delco part cost.

Get rid of the steering too easy in one direction and or harder in the other. This gives your vehicle the normal power steering feel.

Fit was fine. Fixed my problem with the variable assist.. on mine I had full assist. And at highway speeds it would wander all over the road.. putting this on made that steering feel normal.. so much nicer to drive now

As long as it serves its purpose and doesn’t leak this will remain a 5 star rating.
