As described, metal, and teeth grip well even on an 60+ yr old old valve stem (knock on wood). I’m using them as shower knobs in an old cabin shower stall where the handles are too close together for almost any other design. They even match the “C†& “H†paint markers the guy who built the house did back in the day - bonus.

I can't get the old part off that broke (rusted) on my faucet outside, so I couldn't get one on to try it out. If you have a tool that can get what's broke off, they will probably work just fine.

Replaced the one on my outside spicket. Took some finessing to actually get it to fit right and I have a feeling it will be a pain to take back off should it need replacing.

Actual stem size these would need to fit is 7/16". They just spin on a 3/8" standard size shaft.
