About the Tap: Also called pipe taps, carbon steel NPT pipe taps are designed to clean and or re-thread damaged or jammed pipe threads. They are appropriate for threading a wide variety of materials both ferrous and nonferrous. The nominal size of a Pipe Tap is that of the pipe fitting to be tapped, not the actual size of the tap. I am not sure how well the bit and tap would hold up for regular use, but I just needed it for a one-time application (drilled out broken brass pipe nipple and retapped). It worked well (using plenty of oil and taking my time), and it was far less expensive than buying a set of NPT taps that I will probably never have a need for going forward.

Worked just fine to drill and tap a new air output on my compressor. Package well and came with oil on it to prevent rust.All in all, good price and got the job done.

I used this to drill and tap an aluminum water pump housing. I know aluminum is not a very tough metal but never the less the drill did great and didn't get gummed up and the tap worked well too. Nice set. I just wish they made a complete set with drill and taps (they only sell a tap set).

I had a 4 port water manifold on my yard hydrant. The threaded plastic connector that screwed onto the garden hose connector on the hydrant broke. I was able to drill out the aluminum entrance tube on the manifold and threaded it for a 1/2 inch pipe. I bought a 1/2 inch x 1 inch long brass nipple and threaded it onto the new threads. I then added a 1/2 pipe to garden hose adapter and it screwed onto the hydrant. We are back in business with 4 hoses in our yard.

Good price, needed the tap to make new threads in a aluminum caliper for a bleeder screw repair kit. Turns out I didnt need the drill bit as the hole was the perfect size , just ran the tap down to the bottom of the hole , installed the repair kit , worked for me. The drill bit is still great to have if you need to drill out some other kind of caliper or whatever needs a repair kit etc.

This worked really well. I needed to enlarge a 1/4 npt hole to 3/8 npt.Drill low speed with cutting fluid, dont burn the drill bit.Then tap slowly with cutting fluid too, take your time.I used a 12 point 6mm socket to turn the tap. Started with a battery dewalt 3 gear drill/driver at very low rpm to engage it straight to start then I continued with a ratchet by hand once it was straight.Perfect npt connection.I have zero idea how long it would last if used frequently, but a pro quality tap is around 100$ for just the tap and I would guess like 50$ for the drill so this kit is great value if you need it for a little project.
