Thick would trust to hold a 20 plus pounder, and it holds up to 10 really good size catfish (2-5 pounder) before it gets to the point it can't hold anymore without them being out of water.Important to note however and this doesn't just apply to this stinger NEVER and I repeat NEVER trust that little metal loop, always make your own loop at button of stinger and use that and metal loop.

We use to bleed walleye. Hang over boat during the process. Good length allowing fish to easily reach water. Nylon makes for an easy cleanup and doesn’t fray on fish gills. Can easily securely hold 3-4 (4-5lb) walleye at one time.

I was looking for a thinner line for bluegills and sunfish. It would be fine for larger fish like bass.
