Simple, robust, well calibrated, and surprisingly sensitive. Platforms for weighing are 2 3/4" x 2 3/4" each. Scale comes in four pieces - base+vertical+pin, wooden lever (which sits on pin), and 2 platforms. We made it a 2-piece item by affixing the platforms to the lever with wood screws (by eye), then drilling a little material out of the bottom of the lever arm on one side and adding a screw to the bottom of the other to compensate for the the minor miscalibration that resulted.
