The square column, a timeless style is now available in expanded cellular PVC for quick, easy assembly and virtually maintenance-free! Classic Craftsman Series Columns are not prone to the same environmental damage as real wood, such as splitting or cracking. Their E-Z Lock joints will not separate due to disproportionate changes in panel dimensions. When two coats of acrylic latex paint are applied, Classic Craftsman Series Columns will deliver years of service as promised by their Limited Lifetime Warranty against rot, corrosion, and moisture damage. Replaced 100-year-old column that had rotted. Nobody can tell the difference

Arrives poorly packaged and slightly damaged and without instructions. Call the manufacturer for instructions. When you get the instructions you will read that the top and base are prepped for biscuit joint--they aren't requiring you to purchase an expensive biscuit cutting tool--there's no other satisfactory way to assemble those pieces. The columns are NOT assembled: they're shipped as four flat interlocking pieces for the columns and pre-cut top, base, and trim moldings. The instructions mention nailing the pieces together; using #7 1 5/8" stainless steel screws is how I was able to better assemble tight joints. The product is very well made and everything fits together as it should. Be aware that the product MUST BE PAINTED. For a long-time contractor, this was an OK install but not recommended by me for a casual handyman type. It takes two people to assemble--not possible with only one. Three people is the best way to get the job done. All of this said, it's a nice product, well made, better than competitive products and vastly superior to building something from wood.

This product did not specify the correct diameter of the top of the taper. Each piece was slightly damaged. I attempted to work with each kit, but the pieces are brittle. I pre-painted so probably can't return. Going with another company.
