I did a remodel where I put a kitchen island in, the cabinet company wanted $600 per leg! I bought 2 of these on Amazon for $58 each and painted them white myself, and cut length to size (took off 1 inch). They are sturdy, easy to paint, and look great.

I couldn't find speaker stands I like for my new bookshelf speakers, so I made my own. These cabinet columns were the perfect height for speaker stands, they were pretty smooth already so didn't have to go to crazy sanding. Added a 2in butcher block bottom and top, routed the edges 2 coats of stain 3 coats of poly and I have gorgeous speaker stands that match my furniture.
