While more expensive than the best sellers this kite reel is very well made and comes with a replacement eyelet and the plastic connectors and bolt needed to install it.The line is only 500 feet but its 120lb strength make it very solid for a small to medium kite. The bearings are very smooth and the handle is big enough for large hands. It's also comes with an attached swivel on the end of the line, which is nice. The only weirdness is the lock. There's a flip lock (in the instructions "A") a button lock and corresponding lock latch (in the instructions "B").When A is flipped to unlocked it allows you to reel in or reel out the kite. When locked, and the latch is in between the blue lock holders, it goes no where. The button B flips the lock latch on (meaning out). To put the lock latch into unlocked mode you have to physically push it into unlocked mode.No idea why they did this, but there must be some reason. There is a situation where you can lock the reel entirely. If you put A into "unlocked" and have pressed the B button (meaning the lock latch is down) and reel the line all the way in so the swivel is against the eyelet and the latch is in between the two blue locks - you're reel isn't going anywhere, and you'll need to cut the line and feed it through the eyelet again, then knot it (twice).Leave a foot or two of line unreeled when you put your kite away to avoid this from happening. In a strong wind with the latch in unlocked mode your kite is going to take off quickly and the reel's handle will turn very fast. The best part of this is after you've flown your kite and it's time to reel it in.Basically you're fishing with your kite, but it makes it so much easier to reel in your kite back that the cheap real handles that come with most kites. The only time things get problematic is on launch when you let too much line out and reel it back in quickly - the line can miss the reel and wrap around the handle, so be careful. It's expensive, but it's worth it.

If you want a quick thumbs up or down, this is a thumbs up. This is a full size winder that accommodates adult sized large hands. The Pros: This is made with what appears to be very quality parts. This is not cheap plastic, etc. and operates very smoothly with a very nice wheel as well as wheel lock. The lock retracts with the push of a button and it locks again by pushing on the lock (hard to describe). The construction of the winder is absolutely 5 stars. The line is braided (stronger than twisted) white and red Dacron (DuPont polyester) line. It has red interwoven with the white for safety reasons such as when the line is on the ground or the kite is flying and children are running around they will hopefully see it and not run into it hurting themselves. The cons: The swivel on top has a roller but it does not fully enclose the line. If attention is not paid the line could wrap around the post. I plan on trying to replace the swivel with the type found on other winders or something similar. If you look at the picture, you will see that the line does not start winding immediately past the hand grip. You will see there are holes there instead. This appears to be the space needed to attach a nice handle on it. This is only mentioned so the buyer knows that the side height is not any higher than other reels and that the side height will not hold anymore line other than the extra line that it can hold simply from being a larger diameter winder. The picture of the amount of line is very realistic where the top of the line when wound goes to about the middle of the top hole with 500 feet of the 120 pound Dacron line that came with the winder. This is mentioned in case different line is ever desired such as thicker stronger line (for very large kites) or more line. My super rough calculation (but I am not an expert) is that it can squeeze another 300 feet of this same type of line in so it may hold a total of 750 to 800 feet of the 120 pound line.In summary I would buy this again.
