Let the breeze ring this gong for you; it's a great pick-me-up. Some believe that touching a gong will bring you fortune and strength. We can't guarantee that, but our affordable wind gong will certainly bring you pleasure every time you hear it ringing in the wind. Chinese instrument makers have made gongs for thousands of years and are deserving of their reputation of making the best in the world. Many processes go into creating the special sound of a Chinese Gong, including fine toning as a result of hand-hammering. In Buddhism, the gong is sounded at the start and end of each day. In Chinese temples, gongs are struck 108 times because it's believed that sentient beings have 108 types of worries. The teaching is this upon hearing the gong, worries will cease, wisdom will grow . Nothing has the ability to transport us to another time and place quite like the brilliant resonance of a gong. For over a thousand years, gongs of various types have played an important role in both the religious and secular music of many Asian cultures. Gongs were sounded to chase away evil spirits, warn of invading armies, heal the sick and invoke the spirits of the dead. To be touched by a gong was said to bring happiness and strength. Today, this revered instrument of warriors, emperors, princes and priests adds a special aura to any setting. Handcrafted using traditional methods, Woodstock Gongs bring the ancient wonders of the Far East home. In 1979, Grammy Award-winning musician and instrument designer Garry Kvistad created the first Woodstock Chime from an aluminum lawn chair he found in a landfill. Fascinated by the Scale of Olympos, a 7th century pentatonic scale that can’t be played on a modern piano, Garry cut and tuned the lawn chair tubes to the exact frequency of the ancient scale. The resulting Chimes of Olympos was the first Woodstock Chime and is still one of our best selling, musically-tuned windchimes. Garry and his wife Diane still develop the chimes today as part of their family-owned business in New York’s Hudson Valley. Woodstock Chimes - The World's Favorite Windchime.

I had another gong for about 25 years. It gonged gently in the breeze. If there was serious wind, it went crazy, for I had to take it down a couple of times a year. Yes, I can make it gong, but I wanted the breeze to make it gong. I've tried it in about 4 places in my yard, and it just doesn't sound except in high wind. Very disappointed. My other one fell apart or I would still have it. I keep wondering if the string is not quite close enough to the gong. I cannot recommend this gong unless it is strictly for decorative purposes, or for hand ringing. $94.15 down the drain. Return window closed after 5 weeks. One of the worst purchases I have made on Amazon.

I bought this since it had a nice sound when I gonged it in the store and my neighbor did not like my other wind chime as it was too loud. Well it turns out this gong chime hardly gongs even in a strong wind. Tried to play with how it is set up and still no gong. If you want to gong it yourself to call the kids for dinner or some such thing then I would just get a bell or gong. Does not work as claimed.

Fun to add to your wind chime collection. If you are a "gong" person it's still fun to have. I'm curious how a gong collection would sound.

This Woodstock wind gong has really surprised me . All my other Woodstock products have been so good . This one however is a let down for the Woodstock name . My reason for saying this is because that although it looks and sounds really good the nuts and bolts holding the whole thing together keep undoing even in the slightest breeze even though Woodstocks have put lock nuts on as well . So I have to keep checking the tightness every day . I do not feel that this is a one off because I bought 2 at the same time and they both have the same fault .
