I bought this to check the onboard computer oil sensor. The sensor cable is long enough and but it will not fit all the way down the dipstick tube far enough to reach the oil. I was going to return it but the vendor was kind enough to offer a refund so I have updated the stars on my review to note how above and beyond the vendor went to make sure I am happy. I would have returned it in new and unused condition, but since I will be keeping it (thanks to nice vendor!!), I decided to test it with a new bottle of oil and it came back 100%. This weekend, I am going to change my oil and test it to see if what this reads in the disposal pan matches what my truck computer says. I will update my review with the results. I really wished It worked with my vehicle! Maybe the next version will have a smaller sensor, like the flat dipstick.

Easy to use and easy to understand. Unit is somewhat cheaply built and the two doesn't set of batteries down stay firmly in place. Not sure how precisely accurate the reading is either but it's not far off at least a d overall this is a useful item to have around the garage.

Took this out of the box and it is easy to use and understand, however I gave it a 1 star review for two reasons.1. The probe on the end needs to be smaller. When you put this down your dipstick tube it can easily catch causing it to be difficult to remove.2. THE BIGGEST ISSUE is that it's not accurate. I tried it in three different brands/types of brand new oil, and all of them came back as 90% new. Royal Purple Full Synthetic 0w-20, Mobile 1 full synthetic 5w-30, and Valvoline 5w-30.

I tested this in my oil and I'm not sure how accurate it is. I was testing a 2007 dodge 3500 6.7 cummins. I tested the new oil and it tested at 90%, then I tested the old oil and it tested at 20% though I am almost positive this oil had no oil life left as I have put well over 8k miles on it and it was a good mix of hard 80 mph highway driving and stop and go in town driving as well as a 30 minute warm up each day for a 2.4. mile drive taking my toddler to school and picking him up. I then filled the oil in my truck and ran it for 20 minutes to get everything circulating and then measured that oil and also got 20%. So it seems to read low, very low and also high. I will check again with my husbands 1993 Subaru Impreza when he comes home from work next week.

Assuming this works, it works great. When I put it on my car I was kind of worried it would get caught on something in there and it did but was easy to get back out. This will save me money on small engine stuff because I think the oil will last more than one year but time will tell. Not worth the risk but if the oil is still good what's the point in changing it. Ford didn't get rich that way and neither will I. I don't believe too much maintenance will hurt anything but on the other hand it can waste money. This device helps me decide that.

When I first got it, I had high hopes for it. It would be great to test the oil in the engine to see if it really needed to be changed, especially with the price of synthetic oil. I had a few oil changes that I had to do so I figured that it would be a good initial test for it. The first oil change I suspected that the oil was not in all that bad of shape and after I drained it, I put the tester in the drain oil and it showed 80% which I thought was a bit high. For a second test, I put the probe directly into the jug of new oil and it showed 100%.The second change was on a car that I knew the change was due on and again, put the probe in the drained oil. This time it showed 30% which I thought was a bit low but it showed that the tester was reading something. While I still had another oil change to do, I had another vehicle that I was not sure what state the oil was it so I decided to test it in the vehicle thru the dipstick tube as the tool was designed for and this is where the 1 star rating comes from.I put the probe down the dipstick tube and pressed the button and it came back at 100%. I knew that number was wrong. If the probe is not in any oil when the button is pressed it will also show 100% so I pulled the probe back out to see what happened. It snagged slightly but came out. The probe had some oil on it so I figured that it dipped into and back out of the oil when inserted so I figured that I would try it again and spin the cable to direct the probe down. Once again, it showed 100% but this time, when I attempted to pull it out, it jammed and would not come out. It looks like it got hung up on the crank somewhere, fully disabling the vehicle. I turned the crank about a 1/4 turn from the damper pully and it came free. I was lucky. If not, I would have had to drain the oil and drop the pan to get it free. While the idea of this tool is a great idea, the implementation of it has much to be desired. They need to come up with wither a better probe lead that does not stay in that coiled position or a better way of packing it to prevent it from forming that coil that can look up into the engines internals and get stuck.
