Dave Grohl is an alternative rock legend who needs no introduction. A longtime Gibson user, his previous Gibson signature guitars have remained extraordinarily popular and command premium prices on the used market—when you can find one. Now Epiphone is extremely proud to once again partner with Gibson Custom on the release of the Dave Grohl DG-335. It features the combination of ES-335 and Trini Lopez model features Dave requested and that fans expect, including a semi-hollow ES body with bound diamond-shaped sound holes, a one-piece mahogany neck with an elliptical profile, Trini Lopez-style headstock with Grover Mini Rotomatic tuners, laurel fretboard, and split diamond inlays. The pickups are Dave’s preferred Gibson USA Burstbucker models, with a Burstbucker 2 in the neck and a Burstbucker 3 in the bridge position. They’re wired to CTS potentiometers, Mallory capacitors, and a Switchcraft 3-way toggle switch and 1/4” output jack. This is one of the most requested models in Epiphone’s history, so we are X-Static to offer this exceptional guitar to players worldwide. An Epiphone Dave Grohl hardshell case is also included. I have owned several other Epiphone guitars prior to this and have always found them to be quality instruments. I was a bit dismayed by the $1300 USD price tag but after researching the alternatives (the $15k-ish DG Gibson custom, the Epiphone es-335), for the extra coin you're getting the quality case, the Gibson burstbucker 2 and 3, Mallory capacitors, CTS pots, a Switch craft switch, and a locking bridge, I think this is a fair value. There may be better deals out there but I think the $1300 is fair.I love the neck. It's a wider but not chunky neck. I do have bigger hands so no big deal for me. The color is super cool and a good match to the DG Gibson model.Acoustically, this thing sings! Plugged in, it's exactly what the video reviews have replicate, a high quality rock machine.I did put locking tuners on it. That's the only change I've made. I changed over the mini kidney bean from the original tuners onto the locking tuners as they are perfectly sized from the factory for this headstock.Came from the factory at about 2.25mm off the 12th fret and playability was great. Neck is string straight and as a $1300 guitar's neck should be. I did polish the frets after a string change and it feels even better. Fret ends are great. No worries there on my specimen.Bottom line, this guitar rips. I'd long thought about getting into the ES game, but when this guitar was announced, I thought it would be a matter of time until I pulled the trigger...and that's how it worked out. If you're into DG and the FF and think this is a cool guitar l, you'll not regret it.
