How to remove the escutcheon plate
step1:
Lever: Use a 7/64" Hex wrench to remove screw under handle.
Knob: Gently pry the cap with the Moen logo on it off and remove the Phillips screw.
step2:
Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the escutcheon screws. This may be difficult to remove from the wall as there may be caulking/sealant around the outer edge.

Our plumber badly scratched our Moen escutcheon when removing it.This Bestong replacement looks exactly the same as the Moen. Side by side, I can't find any differences.However, sliding it over the collar/sleeve wasn't easy. The original Moen had a lot of wiggle room to slide it over the collar/sleeve. This replacement though, was VERY tight. (NOTE TO SELLER: MAKE THE CENTER HOLE 1/2 MILLIMETER LARGER).If you're installing this you're obviously handy, so my advise is: use a metal file to scrape the center hole a few times before sliding in on the sleeve. It took about 2 min. This is not a cheap knockoff, and despite the small inconvenience, I highly recommend it.

This is a great, cheap alternative to paying $30 for an original Moen shower plate. It comes with thick rubber backing, and even the screws you need to install it, which is nice since mine were covered with caulk from fixing a hole in my old plate. One Con about this is that the hole is very hard to fit over the collar shaft (see pic 2). It took some time and patience, first to even get it over the collar, then to finesse and push it down onto the shaft (pic 4) without bending or denting the plate. To do this I took the collar off of the pipe (pic 3), and put it back on with the new plate attached (pic 5). Be careful when handling the new plate, it's edges are very sharp and cut the tip of several of my fingers trying to get it onto the old collar and mounted flush against the tile. Another tip when screwing the new plate on, alternate left and right screws and do a little each time so as not to push in the screw holes in the plate like I did my old plate (pic 1). This plate looks beautiful installed (pic 6)!
