I have used Estwing hammers my whole life. A father in construction and remodeling all his adult life would hand his old ones to me.Once Estwing was a perfectly balanced tool, it still is a fine tool. The leather handle is the only way to go. Lasts almost forever. Although after 20 yrs of use it may discolor. Now retired myself I decided to upgrade from hand me down to brand new. When I needed a hammer I chose the 16 oz curve to replace the 20 oz straight.I LOVE IT!!And as an extra bonus I went for the leather handle hatchet for honing. It too is an amazing tool. The only negative to the hatchet is the sheath is not made in the USA.As a lifetime Estwing owner these are the best hand tools for me.One of the best gifts I have given myself.Try one you’ll love it.

This is the most preferred hammer among craftsmen and finish carpenters (although some prefer straight claw). It is nicely balanced, and enables maximum controllable force to it's relatively small hammer face. The curved claw design enables maximum prying/lifting force minimizing damage to the prying surface. The curved claw also reduces danger on the back swing and increases function in tight spaces. Not only is the metal of this attractive hammer expertly treated, conditioned and finished, but the leather handle grip is naturally comfortable, absorbs shock, and enables a firm grip in all environmental conditions. More than twice my clients have commented " my grandfather used a hammer just like that". This hammer replaced my 40 year old trade tool; put through the paces but still in excellent condition; that was stolen.

Pros: Classic design, Proven Staying PowerCons: noneBest Uses: Light Nail Removal, Light Nail DrivingMy father had an Estwing stacked leather handle hatchet. I always liked the design and the way it worked. I needed a hammer and, on looking around, found that the Estwing design, from 1923 is still being manufactured. Naturally I bought one, and was so taken with the idea of owning something of such classic and proven design that now I own practically a complete set of Estwing leather handled tools. You can't buy an American made "Perfect Handle" wrench or screwdriver anymore, but Estwing keeps right on making their striking tools to the same standard as when they designed their original 90 years ago.

Estwing is the best. I still have my very first hammer, a 12 oz Estwing I got for my 10th birthday in 1956.

I was so excited to receive my first leather handled hammer after using the blue handled ones for years. Great balance when driving nails. I used it while building a deck with no problems. Yesterday, while doing finish carpentry I needed to pull a 4d finish nail, and the claws just slipped off the nail without gripping it. Upon a closer look, I discovered that the V between the claws do not even come together. There is almost an eighth inch flat spot where the claws meet.
