I bought this head to emulate the old calfskin jazz sound from decades ago. It surprised me. It works well as a batter or resonant head. Go ahead and buy 2.

I like how these heads look... very vintage, but IMO they do not sound like calfskin heads, not even remotely. These heads have a loud "plasticky" attack sound that I really don't care for. Real calfskin is warm and has a very soft attack sound, almost like hitting with mallets.
