This light is fine for the price. It is similar in size, shape, and color to the old lantern battery lights you might have had if you are older, but it has an LED light instead of an incandescent bulb, and uses two D cell batteries, which are included.Ignore the reviewers who say it needs four batteries. Apparently those people cannot read instructions. The light CAN take four batteries, and will last longer with four (at the same brightness) but it only REQUIRES two. I paid about seven dollars for this light with two batteries included, and it is more than worth it.This is not going to be my primary light, but at this price point it is handy for keeping in a car or in a storm kit, or for giving a spare to a neighbor when the power is out. It serves the purpose of lighting up a room or an area outside. The fact that it floats is a bonus.I purchased two and both work fine (with either two or four batteries). I had no problems with the switch as some others have reported. For what I paid, if they last through a few storms or power outages I'll feel I got my money's worth.

This is a simple, bright, battery powered flashlight. All plastic, just what I was looking for. It may be cheap but if treated properly it will last a long time. I like how light it is, and the bulb is so bright, you can see for quite a distance.

It is astonishing that Ever-Ready lent their good name to this truly awful piece of badly-designed, shoddy plastic. Where to start? The battery compartment requires significant force to close the lamp up after putting the batteries in - and good luck in finding out how to orient the batteries, as there are no - as in zero - instructions. The battery connection requires you to rotate the lens to line up the battery contacts, effectively unscrewing the lamp open part way to make it work, so good luck with guessing how that goes and then keeping the lid on it. The on-off switch is "crunchy" and intermittent. If I were to set about designing the worst flashlight possible this would be close. If you've bought it, send it back. Yes, I know it's cheap but don't encourage anyone to market this travesty of bad engineering. Top Tip (from a licensed Electrical Engineer): Look elsewhere - anywhere else. Top Tip Two: Anything from Maglite - the best - will do you fine, yes, more expensive, but it will last forever.

It is sponsored by Eveready, and has 2 of their D cell batteries taped to it. But surprise! After removing the lens assembly, there is room for 2 more batteries inside! Making this a proper 4 cell light. It doesn't make it any brighter, but it will be a much longer time before you ever need to change them again. The bulb itself is Cobb type LED, which is brighter and more reliable than earlier types. It has a bright yellow color, easy to find, it's portable and easy to use. The activator button is a high quality sealed rubber pusher style, which be be used to send Morse code. I like this flashlight, you will too.

For its price this is a good torch. I didn't want to spend a lot on a more powerful LED.Works best with four batteries than two. I would purchase again. Those Kodak D cells, on Amazon are fine and at $2 for two are suitable to make up the four batteries and match the two you get with the torch.

Unlike some of the reviews, I can verify the lantern does indeed work with just the two D batteries that are included. There are two columns for batteries, and you need to put both batteries in one slot, leaving the other empty. It's a little hard to get the head screwed on straight, but once you do, the head makes contact with the batteries and it will come on when you press the switch.I imagine that using all four batteries produces a brighter, bigger beam but I have not tested this yet. The beam is bright enough for me to read by it with my diminished eyesight. For the price, it's a good deal. I may get a second one.I'm betting the people who said it didn't work with two batteries tried putting one in each column,. That won't result in a contact with the head.

I like to keep things for emergencies when my condo has no power. It happens very rarely. Actually only once. But I read my book by flash light. It made the time go by faster

Seems like a decent flashlight so far, especially considering the 2 included (although cheap/underweight) batteries and its price! Here are its pluses in more detail: It casts a moderately bright, focused beam accompanied by a decent amount of flood/flare; runs equally bright with 2 or 4 batteries inside, with zero rattling either way; is surprisingly comfortable and lightweight, even with 4 Ds installed; is highly energy efficient and very high capacity which means extreme stamina/runtime (up to 16.7 days or over 2 full weeks of continuous operation if the 400 hr claim is correct! Which is its greatest strength and only real special or outstanding feature in my opinion, but a totally useful and remarkable one so long as it's bright enough for your liking/needs); has a vibrant, classic look/design with a modern LED touch... and it floats, even with 4 Ds! Although it does take in water at the lid/threads (which is a bit deceptive) especially if it doesn't remain lens upward, like when I was rolling and flipping it around in the water. Stupid me! LOL. Luckily I emptied and dried it out right away and it still works. The only real problem I've noticed is it barely shines using my "8000 mAh" D cell rechargeables that all my other flashlights and lanterns thrive with, which is a huge and somewhat mysterious disappointment. Must be the slightly lower voltage of the rechargeables (1.2 vs 1.5). But it works well with alkalines, as I discovered just before I was about to throw it in the trash. I'm sure glad I decided to unwrap the 2 included batteries and try them just to check! Using alkalines it appears to be substantially brighter than the claimed or advertised "80 lumens" of brightness... It's obviously brighter than my "80 lumen" Duracell flashlight... But what's stronger evidence of it being brighter than 80 is the Eveready's beam wasn't too easily drowned out when shining on the wall next to (and almost totally into) the beam of my excellent "625 lumen" 3 D Maglite (ML300L) on maximum power and focus. Although the Eveready's beam is slightly yellow, unlike the other two, which helped it stand out a tad. But all in all I'd say good job, Eveready/Energizer! I'd definitely keep this one coming if I were you, as well as some improvements to the design. But so far, your floating LED lantern (or "BIG Bu0Y flashlight" as I'd call it) looks like a good product/deal for the price, and one worthy of the ole Eveready name. Of course, only time and usage will tell, but it might just be the Eveready bunnie of flashlights! ^_^ (Yep, the Energizer bunny's cheap twin. LOL) And overall, I'd give it a solid B to A- for its stamina combined with its other pluses, and/or for its type.PS: Looks like I'll be buying it a FRESH pack of either Energizer, Duracell or Rayovac alkalines (to be kept at its side) from a local store. ;)
