I'm getting ready to put down an aluminum garage door threshold and before I can do that, the garage floor needed to be as flat as possible. I had one small high spot and needed to grind it down. I bought an inexpensive angle grinder, a diamond disc (here on Amazon) and this shroud.I was concerned about it fitting because I bought a Harbor Freight grinder, not a name brand. It fit great with one of the adapters. The tool for tightening the shaft rings is the wrong size so I had to use the one that came with the grinder. The "universal" hose adapter didn't work for me. I have a 30 year old Shop-Vac and the nozzles are the same diameter as the shroud attachment port. I ended up taking a Shop-Vac replacement hose I had, but never needed and cut the attachments off the ends and that hose fit the shroud and my vac nozzle perfectly. I bought this shroud because it came with that adapter. Don't let the adapter be your deciding factor like I did because it's pretty useless.I actually used this shroud today and it worked great! Not a spec of dust escaped from it and that's why it gets 5 stars. That's the main reason for having this, right? The only thing I don't like is you can't see the disc, so you're flying blind under there and I had a specific spot to grind down. Everything worked out okay for me though. I now have a level garage floor AND it's dust free!If all you need is the dust shroud, this is good. It definitely reduces dust.

I am always leery about universal products fitting name brand equipment, but with one modification I was able to get this dust shroud to fit my DeWalt DWE4011 4.5" grinder. I've include a picture of the trigger you'll need to remove to make the shroud fit properly. You can remove this trigger with a T15 6pt. Torx bit. The spring on the trigger is not under load, as the actual load is applied when you push the trigger...but make sure you take note of how the spring is orientated so when you reinstall the trigger it will work properly. I used the red shim that has no lip that comes with the kit, be careful and make sure it sets evenly/flush around the spindle housing. The shim will rest against the screw hole protrusion, just make sure it is even all the way around the spindle base. I adjusted the clamp on the dust shroud to be a little loose around the shim. After closing the clamp to secure the shroud to the grinder, I tightened the nut on the clamp with a 10MM wrench. The shroud worked perfectly, little to no dust, I was pleasantly surprised. The hose adapter isn't designed to mount to a shop vac. You'll need to reduce your shop vac hose down to the diameter of the hose adapter that fits in the tool.

I am very pleased with this savior of a product. I used it with a Dewalt DWE4011 angle grinder and Dewalt DW4774 diamond cup grinding wheel to grind off primer, excess tile mortar and peaks off a concrete subfloor. The one-touch guard adjustment feature of my angle grinder made the fit not quite perfect - there’s a built-in thing in the way on my grinder, and I had to jerry-rig a cut piece of rubber and 2 hose clamps to attach my vacuum hose, but it made a potentially hazardous job into an almost completely dust-free project. I expected to find a thin layer of dust on things outside my work area but to my surprise there was none. The one time my vacuum hose broke free showed me how much this dust shroud was working as a small cloud of dust was instantly released into the air. I would have bought Dewalt’s much more expensive shroud (more expensive than my grinder) had it had rave reviews, but it had worse reviews. I would highly recommend this Dastool product for use with a thick grinding wheel - it would be too deep for use with standard grinding wheels. An added bonus was keeping the sparks within the dust shroud. But do use a serious fine-particle respirator, goggles, and good gloves - angle grinders are serious tools with crazy high RPMs.The only issue is I wish it didn’t require a metric socket wrench to tighten it. A regular wrench is too bulky and U.S. socket wrench heads don’t work (I tried the 3 sets I had) so I had to use a pair of needle-nosed plyers which somewhat stripped the nut. I’ll get a metric set one of these days.BTW I have no idea what that wrench-looking thing is for, and expect to spend some time with this thing to get it to fit right.

The description said it fit 90% of the grinders - it definitely does not. I tried it with my Dewalt grinder and no way that it fits - Dewalt has 2 little nubs behind the collar which make it impossible to slide this shroud over the collar. I did not want to remove the nubs. I took the shroud with me to Home Depot and Harbor Freight and found that it would fit very few of the grinders - other manufacturers also had similar nubs behind the collar. I finally purchased a cheap grinder from harbor frights. (SKU # 60372) because it would fit. The drawback was the motor on the small grinder would get hot so I would have to stop frequently to let it cool off.The shroud is well made and once I got it on the grinder it did the job. The other issue is the dust port connection to the vacuum cleaner could be designed so it would actually fit a 1 1/4 " hose. I had to use duct tape to connect the hose to the shroud. Not ideal but I got it to work.My project was to remove about a 100 square feet of thin set from a concrete floor. I was able to get it done without generating a ton of dust.Pros - heavy duty plastic and appears to be well made- does the job of minimizing dust.- inexpensive.Cons- does not fit many grinders. Be prepared to purchase a grinder with this.- vacuum connection needs a better design.I only had a small job but I wasted too much time running around to find a grinder this would work with. If I was doing a bigger job or doing this frequently, I would probably purchase a more expensive shroud that would fit my grinder. Even with the purchase of the grinder, I saved money. but I did waste time.
