E-Z Threaded Inserts for Hard Wood
E-Z LOK Thread Inserts for hard-wood are ideal for applications where stripping or thread erosion is possible. Perfect for furniture, partitions, display cases, shipping containers, anywhere a fastener will be used in wood. E-Z Knife thread inserts provide superior holding power using a proprietary external “knife” thread to slice into the wood. They are designed for use in hard woods such as oak, cherry, and maple. Internal thread sizes ranging from #4 to 3/8 and M3 to M10 are available in either brass or stainless steel. Stainless steel is recommended for particularly hard wood and anywhere corrosion resistance is needed.
Features
- Superior hard wood holding power
- Brass or stainless steel options
- Quickly install using either a bolt/jam nut or option E-Z LOK drive tool.

Used several of these to build a desk that I could dismantle and reassemble in the future. Purchased the 3/4 inch long inserts for a 1.5" thick desktop. I drilled the pilot hole based on the size recommended on the package, inserted a bolt into the insert with two nuts locked to the top of the insert, waxed the outside of the inserts as some had recommended, and drove the inserts into the wood with a socket wrench. A few went in with a slight tilt, but they all went in easily and made the desk assembly a snap when the time came. I am really glad I purchased these and learned how to use them. Looking forward to the next time I have to use them to build something.

I like everything about these inserts. I used it to add a thread to the top of my walking stick to accept a full-size camera ball-mount (i.e., a homemade camera mono-pod). it turned out great and I use it constantly. This is only one of many sizes this vendor offersNo complaints from me!

Work great and wood for the new threads, but are very difficult to get into fiberglass

I've used these E-Z Lok brand inserts for a lot of projects over the years. I've strayed and bought generic ones from the hardware store several times, and regretted it each time. The E-Z Lok brand ones are always true to size, machined well, and install easily.

I bought these for a bolt-on mahogany guitar neck. Drilled to 25/64" as required but found insert needed excessive torque past 1/3 of the insert way. DO NOT USE a screw driver to install via the machines slots; the insert will break. Lost 2 trying. What worked best (if you don't have the installation tool) is a 1/4-20 socket cap screw and a Allen socket ratchet wrench combo. Also, I filed off a bit of the knife threads at 120 degree (-ish) intervals which helped ease installation. MUST be installed square to hole!! Back out if cocked and re-try. Other then that, I'm sure they'll do the job and will NEVER come out.

I turned them in (4) with the slot backwards, by hand (no drill press avail) into 3/4†oak using a stainless bolt and dbl. nut mandrel. I wanted all the thread available at the insertion point because it will be an adjustable fasteners that squeeze wood arms to stop, or loosen to adjust. If you insert by hand, having a steady hand with a drill (one size bigger for best control of squaring tool & insert) followed by a nut driving tool (socket & ratchet in my case) slow and deliberate pressure on the first two turns then stop and check that your square. Continue if it looks straight until the nut just contacts the wood.

I used these to add metal supports to a 31 inch large maple wood sign.
