This 250K split-shaft S-1 switch works great with a five-way Stratocaster® "Super" switch (Fender part number 0992251000). Accepts push-on knobs only (sold separately).

If you wire this S1 switch to add the Neck Pickup to the Bridge Pickup setting, you add two additional tones to the standard Strat pickup selection. It allows Bridge/Neck or all 3 pickups together amongst many other optional possibilities.

I would have given this five stars if the know came with it. I really like the idea of pushing the button in the knob, much better than the more common push - pull type.

I've used this pot/switch 3 times so far. In two cases, the switch wiring became intermittent over months/years. From player's POV, the push pull effect was less than solid, and tapping on control plate etc would produce intermittant noise etc.Turns out: eyelets for soldering leads, can lose contact at the PCB. The eyelet could even rotate. This can be fixed with small solder iron tip, but it's a pain when it happens. To help prevent that, use smaller diameter, stranded wire for the switch connections. 22 gauge, or even lighter is fine.IME so far, the actual switch and pot are fine. Some switching circuits need more than DPDT, so this S-1 is pretty popular.

I have installed 3 other S-1 switches in my other Strats without issue. This round, I made a pickguard for my older American Standard to convert it to an HSS. I had used the S-1s before for a 7 way mod, and another with a Duncan everything axe set, no issues. This time however, the switching portion worked fine, I used it for a humbucker coil split, but the pot was very noisy at the extremes (near 0 and 10). It actually cut out a few times and I had to jiggle it to get sound back. I spent an entire Sunday troubleshooting wiring diagrams from various sources including Fender and finally tried a standard CTS 250k pot and all the problems went away. I ordered a second S-1 thinking the first was defective, and after installing the replacement, there was the exact same problem again. Fender must have changed their sources for these, and I have concluded they are absolute garbage, and it is an insult to charge over $30 for one. While the design concept for the switch is commendable, the manufacturing and quality control are not there. Shame on you Fender. I'll also mention the Amazon picture is not accurate, the new design is totally enclosed in a black plastic shell, so you cannot clean the pot wipers with Deoxit, nor run grounds to it. Save yourself the effort and disappointment and just use good old CTS 450G pots, and put in a micro DPDT switch in the pickguard. FYI, the push push switches out there are not too great either, I've tried them, and the push pulls are not natural for the Strat knobs (hard to pull). This HSS now came out great with the micro switch, and is perfectly silent. I've been playing and working on guitars for 50yrs, I hope you find this valuable, and both Fender and Amazon read this and do something about the quality issues.
