Field Notes 80-Page Steno Pad

field notes steno pad

Single Gregg-Ruled Steno Pad

Sometimes you need a bigger notebook, one that’ll lie flat on your desk, ready for to-do lists and phone messages. Sometimes you need The Steno.

The Steno is 6" by 9" with a black “Double-O Wiring” spiral at the top so it lies flat, open or closed. Inside you’ll find 80 pages of 70# “Bright White” paper Gregg-Ruled with a fine, soy-based application of “Double Knee Duck Canvas” light brown ink. The covers are 60 pt. “Super Duty Chipboard,” with a screen-printed 1-color application of “Dictation Smudge” black ink.

The inside covers provide a range of useful information, from the history of stenography and an abbreviations guide, to temperature conversions, planetary distances from the sun, a hobo symbol quick reference guide and more. Frankly, we wonder how we ever got by without one open on our desks at all times.

By far my favorite notebook. I prefer the reporter opening (wire at the top) and the hard cover makes it easy to write on-site when a table isn't available. Forever my go-to tool for work.

Paper is sturdy so I can use both sides and pad is not too thick. Covers are hard so you can write on them without the notebook bending. My favorite steno

I bought this knowing exactly what I was getting. I've been a longtime field notes user and I LOVE their quality and design. I decided to order through Amazon and noticed my steno pad came damaged due to amazon shipping the pad in a bag. I had the same issue with a planner that I ordered through Amazon that was from field notes as well. So I contacted field notes for a replacement and a shipping label but they were kind enough to simply ship out another steno pad straight from their facility free of charge. Is this pad expensive? Yes. But you don't just get a pad, you get a company that stands by its products and will make things right if you are not satisfied.

If your search for thick paper top spiral bound steno pad has lead you here, this is what you want! I did that years ago and have never looked back. These have thick paper and a hard cover. One of the best features is that you can prop it up like an A-frame next to your computer and type at eye level. Other steno pads would just fold and fall over when I tried that. We also use the entire page and overtime time other brands would start curling at the bottom making them hard to use after you’ve been using them awhile. Not these field notes, they’re perfect. If you need to use it regularly and maybe even ruggedly, this is your pad! It’s just as rigid after a year of daily use as it was when new. The pages are the perfect thickness, they do not bleed through to the other side with any type of pen except a sharpie. Due to the info we document, we must archive and keep these for several years even when they’re filled up. It’s nice to know that if they ever quit making these, we can put a big “X” on the front cover, flip it over and start using it again with the opposite side of the page like it’s a brand new pad. We don’t do this now, because 13 bucks is reasonable enough for us to just use the one side of the page. But in a bind, we could just start over by just turning the pad over and use the back cover as the new “front” cover. Awesome product. The company truly realizes that the little things are exactly what customers are looking for. Such as stiff covers, and thicker pages. Sure, the cheaper stenos are great for certain usage, but if you’re frustrated with the paper quality or not being able to A-frame for using them next to a computer, you definitely need these!

I need a notepad that has a hard backing for field use. This one fits the bill. The backing is much stiffer than the multipack steno pads at Sams or Staples, and the pages are a little thicker to. I you need something that will stand up to outdoor use, I recommend this item. It is a bit pricy, so you don't need it if all you are doing is writing on a desktop or table top, but it is highly worth it for field work. After ordering on as a test, I ordered several more for back-up supply in case this item becomes unavailable because most people do not want to pay the higher price.. Good product

The paper thickness meets my neurodivergent needs. The top spiral makes it easier for my left handed writing. I just wish it came on 5x8.

The front and back are a sturdy cardboard, and the paper is nice and smooth. Love it!

I have various notebooks scattered throughout my house and travel bag, and I love having the Steno pad open in my living room for quick access and handy reminders. I use this pad differently than I do my other notebooks, and I started enjoying the Steno pad more once I found it's place in my home (or however that manifests for you). Although it's kind of a hip-brand, which I know can be a turnoff, Field Notes really does make the highest quality notebooks available. The paper is sturdy and does not let ink run, the back and cover have a great weight and feel, and the dimensions are perfect for this type of notepad. As with all their products, everything is meticulously designed and thoughtfully constructed. Just be aware that it is larger than their normal notebooks, so it's use and practicality may differ from previous experiences you've had with their products. I consider this company to be the absolute best at what they do, and the steno pad is simply an extension of their top-notch product line.PS - check out the insides of the covers... always a treat.
