Some things you know are going to work while purchasing them. This set of dial calipers is one of those tools that in appearances may not be as refined as an expensive Mitutoyo, but works perfectly well, and with continued good service will have its edges worn smooth. Likely just a Chinese standard build as a basis for a dozen different brands, it doesn't even wear the brand name of the machine shop that built it.These dial calipers are made of heavier stainless steel, rugged, and ready to put to use at any time, thus being more reliable than the digital calipers I made the mistake of purchasing from Redfield, and were too often entirely useless because the battery would die quickly. I expect these calipers will continue to provide flawless precision readings for many years.

This caliper is not machinist quality, however sometimes that's not needed. I use one of these with a cutting and engraving laser for setup use. Fast and very accurate way to measure material thickness for proper settings. This is a perfect cost-effective solution.

I selected the dial caliper because it did not need a battery. All the reviews for the digital calipers said something about batteries draining fast and hard to change. The dial caliper does not have that issue. I use the caliper for selecting drill sizes for my hobby. It works great for me. My negative comment is the plastic case. The plastic case is very thin and the closing clasp broke the first time I opened it. I wish the company spent a few cents more and provided a better case to protect and store the caliper.

The calipers were supposed to be an overnight delivery. I live out in the boondocks so I wasn't holding my breath. On top of that, it snowed quite a bit and my roads are not maintained. The driver got a little lost but he kept going. He drove across an icy creek in his little Hyundai to get back on track. I could see him on the Amazon tracking page so I went out to help him, even though he was headed my direction and I am confident he would have made it. He was a very impressive driver. The calipers are really nice too. I am tired of digital ones that the battery is always dead when you need them. This dial scale is just fine. It came with a light film of fine oil on it, but only in the right places. It was even preset to zero. This makes me think that they have superb quality control at the plant where they are made. This was verified by a very nice fit and finish. Very pleased with my purchase. Oh, and the numbers are very clear as well.

I need to repeat what others have stated - fresh out of the box, the product looks used.I was specifically looking for a non-digital metal caliper for inches for travel. For one-tenth the price of a good shop tool, you can't go wrong with this device. I am giving this 5 stars based on the value you get for the price you spend, as this would certainly not be 5 stars when compared to the more expensive units, but is more than enough for the hobbyist. It is accurate. Sturdy. Easy to read (once you learn how to read it). And the travel box will protect it. A perfect 1/10-the-cost tool.

First impression out of the box is that it would have a nice brushed finish, if it didn’t have so many places that it was scratched in other directions. With that many cosmetic defects, I was afraid to see how that lack of attention to detail manifested in rest of the construction. After wiping the blades and setting zero, it seems to have held zero properly for a few minutes of short, medium, and long moves, so a good start there. I have had other dial calipers where you could strongly feel the gear engagement as you traversed, to where you really felt it was going to affect repeatability of how much “tension†you applied to a measurement, and it just flat out felt like a coarse grittiness. This specific one has just a hint of that feel. Not quite enough to bother me, but not nearly as smooth as ones I have spent 4x as much on either. There is a very mildly gritty feel to the travel, but I think that is likely due to travel on the brushed stainless surface, and will likely polish in with a bit of use.So for its price point, I consider it quite usable for measuring things that I am doing 3D designs to fit, and is a suitable general purpose caliper. I would rate it 3.5 stars if I could. I wouldn’t use it for quite the same things that I occasionally bring the 4x the price ones out though. And it certainly does not replace them.If I dig up a 123 block later I will update, but I don’t expect any issues there.

A decent dial caliper fills the gap between a micrometer and a vernier scale You NEED this if you ever make anything out of any sort of metal. It is cheap, and this sort doesn't use batteries. Don't waste your money on a digital caliper that will just let you down when you need it. This is a decent one for the price. If you destroy it from carelessness, no biggie, get another one and be more careful next time.
