Midwest Hearth Original Fire Starter Squares
Midwest Hearth fire starter squares are proudly made from recycled newspapers, wood chips, and bonded with paraffin wax. This potent combination results in a fast lighting (1/10th of a second!) starter that will ignite even when wet. Each square can burn for approximately 10 minutes which is ideal for starting a robust fire. Midwest Hearth fire starters are non-toxic and will not flavor your food with unhealthy flavors that other petroleum based lighters use. Each box contains 144 fire starters. Simply break off individual squares from the larger wafer as needed.

These are the best fire starters that I have used so far. The pucks are OK, these are outstanding. Quick starting and super clean. No mess, no smell.

I love how well these little blocks work. I set up the fire, set the sttarter block in a central location of the fuel, preheat the chimney, light the starter block, close the door and walk away. Makes getting the fire in a fireplace or woodstove very easy at an affordable price. The only negative, and it isn't even that bad, is that the small blocks come in sheets that have to be broken apart by the consumer. Picture a hershey bar, but made of this saw dust and accelerant material. For an old lady with weakened hands, this is a task. I get it done, but it would be nice if the scores were a little deeper. Overall, I love this product and it works a lot better than the stuff you buy in the store for a higher price.

Plenty of other brands to choose from but I cannot imagine how we went decades without these guys before. Super efficient! Great value, no smell, easy to light and long burning.

These work very well, I usually use 4 of the squares to start a fire. I could probably get away with using 2-3 but I want to start a fire and then not have to futz with it too much to get it going.

Hard to light, but once lit, they go like crazy. I tried getting some coals going with these in a ceramaic cooker., I lit some paper underneath them, and they did not ignite. They were black and charred from where the flames were licking them. My other starters would have been lit for sure, but they are 10x the price. I broke the squares up into little pieces (not easy nor clean), once I did that, they caught fire on the second try and then burned very well and got my coals up and running quickly. I used two squares, I could probably get away with one square for lighting the coals.

I bought these for the first time 5 years ago, after trying different brands. These starters are great - they burn for a long time, one is enough to start a fire and the value is fantastic. I use these primarily to start the charcoal for my grill and it works very well for that purpose. I highly recommend these and they are made in USA.

WOW!!Best feature about these - made in USA!!These little bricks are amazingly simple to use and fantastic!!I supplement my homes central heat with my wood stove. That being said, I’m continuously gathering twigs for kindling. But when it has rained for 2-3 days in a row well everything is wet.These light extremely easy and stay burning long enough to get the smaller logs goingMy first experience using these was this morning at 5 AM -before coffee —- they sure made my morning start off easy !**UPDATE** 12/18/2019Quick and easy fire starter - no kindling needed - 2 squares and some dry wood - easy peesy lemon squeezieUPDATE Feb 2025Just re ordered another set of these starters - tried other brands - and there’s no comparison - these are by far the best
