This thing would not split my 2-year old hackberry, even tried close to the edge. Kept getting stuck. Does split pine 2X4's, but so does a hatchet.

I have seen similar products on video adds. They make it look so easy! I had OK results splitting random pieces of firewood from my wood pile. Straight pieces split easily. It was actually kind of fun making kindling out of a couple of pieces of dry pine. I did however manage to bury it into a Y'd piece of oak, and had a heck of a time dislodging it (my fault for not following product instructions). Make sure you have a firm grip on your drill! The finish literally started to rust overnight after use. Spray, or dip in oil before storing.

This will definitely bite in and start splitting, unless the wood is really soft. The fine threading is best in dry hardwoods, but in general any dry wood will work. Doesn't work on skunked wood.If you get it in the wood and need to reverse it, the threaded insert can unscrew itself. I'm going to take the regular insert and tack weld it with the MIG so it can't come undone.Makes splitting firewood so easy you can just sit in a chair and do it. Just be careful because if it get's stuck all that force goes into twisting your wrist. Use a drill with the second hand attachment to stay in control.
