About this item

The First Alert BRK PRC700 Battery-Operated Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm features a photoelectric smoke sensor and an electrochemical carbon monoxide sensor. The photoelectric sensor detects larger smoke particles from smoldering fires from objects like cigarettes burning on furniture or in trash cans. The alarm features a loud, 85-decibel alarm, designed to wake even the soundest of sleepers. One button silences any nuisance alarms, and also tests detector functions, while lights indicate if the alarm detects smoke or carbon monoxide. The battery-operated smoke and CO detector can be installed easily, with no wires or electrician required, and its slim profile will seamlessly blend in with your home decor. The detector will continue monitoring during power outages, and its twist-lock mounting system makes replacing batteries easy.

Pros:This is an excellent choice, It works great an installs easily.Cons: Not approved in the state of Massachusetts. If your getting a house ready to sell in Massachusetts your local fire department must inspect your house prior to closing. A combo carbon monoxide & photoelectric smoke alarm MUST have a voice alert so you know which alarm is alerting. I did not know this prior to purchasing. The fireman told me you can't even purchase these in Massachusetts and asked me if I bought them in NH where they are legal. I said no I bought them from Amazon. I guess if they were bought for your house that you live in they would probably be okay! Make sure your state approves the use of this non-voice photoelectric detector. You must have both carbon monoxide & smoke alarms installed in a dwelling prior to closing on a purchased property. I suppose they could be separate units but if it's a combo unit it must have voice warnings.

I bought 6 of them. Easy to install. They are battery only they don’t install with the house electrical but that was ok for what I wanted. One failed within 1 year but first alert send a free replacement.

I replaced a Kidde alarm that lasted 10 years with this unit. Simple installation. Simple self-test, just need to remember to check it's operation once a year for the added feeling of security.

Lived in my house for about a year before this detector started going off for no reason. Replaced it because I wasn’t sure how old it was and figured I would get the same one to make things easy. I’ve had this one up for less than a month and it’s going off randomly again. Annoying to say the least.

Finally a smoke detector that doesn’t go off if my wife gets distracted while cooking our family meal. To be clear, I also cook for the family, but my attention span seems to last long enough to make sure things in the kitchen don’t get to the point that the smoke detector goes off. But now with the new one she doesn’t feel embarrassed or silly for forgetting the potatos on the stove again.I have tested it with the test button but have never had a fire to actually test the device.Easy to mount and looks terrific.

If you're buying these to sell your house, Be sure to check your "local" fire department for specifications. These were not sufficient for passing inspection.
