When this hand trowel arrived my first impression was that it was a cheap plastic waste of money, but was I wrong! The trowel is very light weight but performs just as robustly as the metal one I have and cleans us more easily. It actually is easier to dig with and just such a surprise. Not just curious to see how many seasons this thing can last, but given that it is a Fiskars, probably a long time.

Small size is both plus and minus... I bought this for backpacking for, well, you know. Its small size and light weight make it ideal as a pack accessory. However, its small size and light weight means unless the ground where you're digging is loamy earth, free of rocks and/or roots, there's not a lot of leverage, and so its difficult to clear a hole big enough for your offering to Mother Earth. Its a trade-off between size/ weight and convenience and effectiveness. This may seem harsh, but I didn't want to just "paper over" it's limitations, IYSWIDT. I guess you could say it's definitely a crappy tool.

Learn your lesson through others. Snag known brands or at least proven ones.I bought and returned 2 gardening sets before I stumbled on this plastic fiskar. My clippers are fiskars, even my scissors are.Problem with most is their made of two parts. One being metal, and a handle made of plastic. Sometimes glued together... which as you can imagine makes them super strong. I just couldn't find more than one set I liked. I opted for a full metal set for $30. 5* for those too. What makes these nice & strong is that it's one piece. Don't go shoveling clay or rocks, but it's holding up through lots of roots. It's pretty solid. Hasn't bent or shown any weakness. Great backup or quick grab when something needs done. Perfect if it's the only thing you need.I'm not a great gardener or even any good; but I can tell well made from poorly made. Save yourself time & money. Find a set that's solid.

These are perfect for what I wanted to use it for and much tougher than you might expect from plastic.

Just received this trowel. Wanted to use not in garden ( I have a stainless steel one with a rubber handle). This one to be used on my guided nature tours, to dig up wild leeks etc to show to participants. Therefore I’m not expecting it to be used for heavy gardening. I noticed it’s lightweight and if ‘composite’ material but if you scroll down the page it states it’s plastic then states aluminum with an aluminum handle. I don’t think so…. Looks to be a compost type of plastic. So the description is questionable. I don’t think there’s any metal in it anywhere.

I like Fiskar products and have always been partial to their scissors. Last year I bought some of these garden trowels and gave one to my sister. She loved it and praised it so much, I bought 4 at Christmas time last year and stocking stuffed one for her, her twins and my mother. They were a great hit.One of them did break and I forget the circumstances but the new dog played a part in its destruction. She was so unhappy to be without her trowel, I got her one shipped out to her within a day. She's a happy gardener again and so is the rest of the family. BTW, no one will share or loan their trowel to anyone else either, so that's a plus for Santa ;-)

A lightweight, manageable trowel that works well for breaking up hardened dirt clods and excavating difficult soil. I am unsure if it is original, but I feel that the quality is not what I would have expected from a Fiskars product. I can honestly say that it is worth the price (less than 5 AUD).

I use this for metal detecting on beaches, when a target is too deep or the sand is too 'rocky' for a sand scoop. Works great...tough enough, and best of all it's non-magnetic so I can use it with my pinpointer.
