I purchased the Flaming River FR1001 Single Wire Timing Light because I run an MSD ignition and this light was recommend by others to work without issue (MSD even recommends a non-advance timing light). I would have liked an advance timing light personally, because I don't have a harmonic balancer with timing marks, but I'll get some timing tape to remedy this.Well, the first timing light I received was not working properly as the flash light part of it turned on, but the actual timing light wouldn't function when the pickup was connected to the #1 plug wire. Bummer, but all I'd have to do is just jump on my Amazon account and send for a return/exchange right? Nope. The option for a no cost to me return wasn't there. Not sure why, because for other purchases I've had to return, Amazon makes it real easy to just print out the return label and even schedules UPS to pick up the item. I suppose it's because the item was being sold through Amazon by a third party seller and not directly from them.Coincidentally, the seller (Karl Performance out of Iowa) sent me an email to ask for honest feedback. Well, I responded to the seller (Karl Performance) why did I need to pay for return shipping on an item that wasn't working? I got an immediate response that they'd refund the return shipping and they did.To sum it up, I've now got a simple but effective timing light and piece of mind that the company that I bought it from stands behind the products that they sell. Kudos Karl Performance.

Overall this is a pretty good product. Works as designed but the flash could be a bit brighter.Very handy when you cannot get to a 12V source for timing your car.

I got this because I have an old Triumph motorcycle. I used to own a SnapOn light, with battery leads but it is long gone. So I thought I would try an inductive one. This might have worked if I used it at any time after dark. It was a very dim light and the lens, which seemed to be made of plastic, focused the beam some 20 degrees off. Worthless.

Really like not having to hook it to the battery .

Works fine, bright enough to see in pretty bright daylight. A must have for folks with Old, antique vehicles to keep tuned and running well. Actually ruined my first 2 lights over a period of only 59 years. Maybe this one will last better.

I had been hunting for a timing light for my older motorcycles for some time. I was looking for something that did not work off the bikes battery. This timing light runs on D cell batteries and does exactly what it is supposed to do. The size works well for cars with tight access areas. It is a great simple timing light.

Not bright and the light is off center. Not very usable. I like the idea of a battery powered timing light but......
