I haven't replaced the strings on my mountain dulcimer in years, so I wasn't surprised when one of my high strings snapped with a recent retuning. Folkcraft brand makes excellent, high quality strings, so I returned to them to replace mine.Yes, they are a bit more expensive but 1) you are supporting a US business 2) you are getting high quality strings 3) they work beautifully with traditional mountain dulcimers.

I don’t love purchasing strings on amazon but ball end dulcimer strings are hard to come by (at least they are where I live) and these are great!

Bought as a set of spares for my Merlin stick dulcimer. Haven't had to replace any yet. They're all the same gauge as on the Merlin so I doubt they'd change the tone. Will update my review when / if I need to replace a string.
