I have altered my review from 2 to 5. I was underwhelmed by the lightweight plastic nature of it compared to the normal stainless steel measuring instruments from Fowler but it works extremely well and it is very inexpensive and after a while of using it I have no complaints.

This is a good, low price depth gauge that is very easy to use. It’s definitely not in the same category as a $500 Mitutoyo, but it works good for general use. Some people mentioned that the plastic parts were flimsy, but I didn’t find that to be that case.

Obviously I would not bring this to a machine shop. It feels light, hollow and would break into pieces if dropped but works for my home garage shop.

I work as a mechanic and this was much less expensive than some of the fancier models. It’s very accurate and easy to use. I saved at least $100 dollars.

Good enough for open tolerances. I trust them on. +/- .01 not sure if would trust it on anything closer. But for the value it's good. Just wish the locating surface was metal and not plastic.

I like my gauge and only bought it because of the brand, Fowler is known for quality precision tools . But unfortunately, the extensions were off, my first measurements were completely off. I finally was able to get correct readings by using my vernier caliper and measuring the extensions , and scribing the actual measurements on the exts. The specs state that the exts were + or - .02 mm, but i found them to be 1.8 mm on one of the exts. So just be aware , will need to do extra measuring . But after you have it set up, works great.
