Abalone diamonds are my favorite type of fretboard inlay. Cutting your own from real shells and installing them is an enormous labor of love that I don't care to get into after having done it once in my life. I was skeptical about using decals. They are easy enough to install and so far playing has not disturbed them. I've only had them for a few weeks and don't know how long they will stay in place. I did clean the wood lightly with just a touch of alcohol to remove any surface oil before application.I spent a lot of time with a photo editor to come up with my own patterns before applying these and I needed several sets to complete the fret boards for both my guitar and bass. They are gorgeous and have transformed how I feel about my instruments. Along with the new pick guard decals (separately reviewed), these are now playable art in my mind.They are made with a reflective foil underlayment and really do catch the light nicely, very much like real abalone. Yes you can peel them up if you try with your fingernail but when you are playing, usually there's not enough fingertip contact to grab them. I did not add a rating for durability because it's too soon yet. I bought an extra package anticipating possibly having to replace some in the future.

Several of the stickers, would not stick, even though the fretboard was thoroughly cleaned, with no residue. Had to toss 4 of the smaller stickers. Those that went on, look good. Just came up short.

I had my guitar on a neck-wrest on my table and had a lot of trouble getting them on straight, but they seem to stay on fine after a week and they look good. Next time, I'll hang them from a guitar hanger and apply them that way, will be easier.The only thing I cannot verify is that they will come off without residue after they've been on for a while..as they've only been on for a week, and I haven't removed any of them.I have another guitar that has no fretmarkers, and I plan to select another set from this company as I now know they work fine.
