Pros: Both saws are very sharp and cut with ease. Blades cut very efficiently. This was my first time using japenese saws. I read that Japanese saws require less effort to cut because they cut with the pulling action, and I can agree that I had to apply minimal effort to get quickly cut. There is a variability in the handles which is pleasing on the eyes. I don't know wheather the handles are different woods, or if it's just the finish, but the differing look gives the knives a handmade appearance. The double-edged saw is clearly labeled to indicate which side is intended for use with hard wood and which is for soft. The blades are flexible enough to allow easy handleing when flushly cutting, but solid/durable enough that I don't have to worry about warping the blade.Cons: I have larger hands, and I found that the handles were sized slightly smaller than I would have preferred. Unfortunately, after my first use, the blade of the flush cut saw had beocme slightly loose. The blade is still usable, but there is a forward and backward wobble to the blade now. The double-sided saw came with plastic guards to keep over the teeth when not in use, but it is difficult to feed slide the guard back over the teeth when the job is complete. I personally ended up just leaving the guard off.

My understanding of these saws is:* the high TPI (17) and short blades mean they're for fine, shallow cuts such as in joinery, where the cut needs to be smooth, NOT for fast cutting or general, all-purpose household use such as landscaping (and definitely not for ripping). They work for that, but the fine finish would be wasted, and a longer, lower TPI saw would work much faster. I find it tedious to reset the short blade constantly for the next pull stroke, so I would reserve these for shallow, precise cuts such as dovetails. If a general purpose saw is what you're looking for, I recommend the Wirecutter pick, the 10 TPI Shark pullsaw, available on Amazon. That's what I have and love, and used for testing for this review.* the SK5 alloy is a decent but not premium blade metal, though a good value at this price point. It makes for a blade that's reasonably hard, very flexible and easy to sharpenI tested by crosscutting a pine 1x4 with 4 saws and comparing the number of strokes needed, as well as the cut finish (rated on a 1-5 scale where 5 is finish-ready, like sanded with 220 grit):Saw | strokes | finishFlush cut (single-blade) GARTOL (G1) | 51 | 4Softwood side of Ryoba (double-blade) GARTOL (G2) | 59 | 4Irwin Marples pullsaw, 17 TPI (M) | 49 | 3Shark pullsaw, 10 TPI (S) | 20 | 2The GARTOL saws leave a cut surface with a slight sheen, confirming its suitability as a finish saw. It wasn't super fast, also as I expected. In contrast, the Shark was lightning-fast - that's why it's so fun to use and I love it, to the point where I'd pick it over a power tool for single cuts. I've never had a fine-tooth saw I'd describe as "fun".In summary, if you're a woodworker looking for a precise, fine-tooth, short-blade pullsaw on a budget like I was, these will do ya. If you're a homeowner looking to cut branches, get something longer and coarser. Not a condemnation of these saws; that's just their nature.

These work pretty well. Not the most amazing saw but very useful to have a smaller sized saw sometimes!

I am ashamed to admit that I don't have the woodworking tools for most household jobs. Here I am trying to finish a set of stairs with trim and nothing is fitting right. These really helped me get the job done on the spot. I know if i had measured and marked everything and taken them to someone with bigger and better equipment it would have been easier but I just felt I had more control with these and the small cuts I needed for piece fit and placement these did fine. All at a fraction of the cost for all the "hardcore" tools I'd normally need.

The blades cut very well. Slightly rougher cut than desired for finished product type item but not horrible. The blades flex a little too much for thick pieces but work well for trying to get into tighter spaces that need the flexibility. The handles I don't care for. They're rough in the hand and the blade is loose and wiggly in them. This can cause some cutting errors as the blade and handle wiggle opposite of one another.

These were a nice addition to my set of saws as I didn't have a good flush-cut saw for projects like this until receiving these. I haven't used them a ton since getting them, but for what I've done the blades seem nice and sharp, and the two different ones are both equivalent there. One is thinner which I can imagine being useful in a few different ways. No complaints here, they work good and are what I wanted

You can never have enough saws. I like this set because they are on the smaller side and fit in my carry around tool satchel. I have used them a coupe times to finish up square cuts I make with my circular saw. The blades are a bit loose on the handle but I can live with that. I would recommend these.

These saws perform quite well. While they may not be the best on the market, having a compact saw can be really handy at times

These flush cut saws work nicely and effectively at flushing a dowel and for cutting plasterboard. The feel of the saws when in use are comfortable. The blades are sharp and in my case, work through soft wood and plasterboard with ease. Cannot yet speak for longevity but the saws work as i needed on initial use. A great cheap tool and now has a place in my woodworking toolbox.

These are beautifully designed saws that will find many uses. The small size ensures that they are light and comfortable to use and they can be used in areas where you may struggle with a bigger saw.I've been renovating some solid wood cupboards in an old bungalow kitchen and these saws are fantastic for precision cuts in tight areas. The finish on the wood is lovely. The blades are slightly loose on the handles which I do find slightly irritating at times but it doesn't detract from how good these saws are.I wouldn't keep these as my 'general purpose' or go-to toolbox saw, but they are remarkably good for smaller, precision work. Recommended.

The plasterboard saw was a secondary consideration in selecting this set for review but it is super easy to get the hole started. The plasterboard saw is decently pointy to get into the walls in standard stud partitions in most new built properties. The double sided ryoba is quite short so it's most useful as a flush trimming cut off saw (there is very little to no set to the teeth so the saw doesn't mar surfaces if cutting flush). You can use the ryoba to rip/crosscut thin stock but it's not going to be comfortable to cut longer or thicker boards given the handle and length of the blade.
