Firstly, this GE Window AC unit is QUIET with EXCELLENT COOLING! It's a well made, sleek unit but is way too heavy for the window sills of this 2 bedroom apartment, so the maintenance guys put it in the high wall box in the 24' by 25' living room for me. Thankfully Amazon sent it with 2 strong delivery men to carry it for delivery. Those Amazon delivery guys are always wonderful with excellent customer service, too!I've only used this GE unit about a 18 times so far since purchasing it on April 27th, delivered on the 28th, installed on the 29th and I have to say, boy, does it work well in super fast cooling the living room, kitchen and bathroom. This is the upper Midwest with the sun hitting my side of the building from 2:30 till about 6:30pm. The remote is fantastic and easy to use. I really love the dehumidifier function to quell the muggyness! The automatic function is energy saving and excellent, too. The washable filter is easy to remove for cleaning which is a must to keep any unit working efficiently. This window ac unit is more expensive than others, but after experiencing the QUIET,fast auto cooling and dehumidifing efficiency functionality in its operation I will say it's well worth it. When summer really starts I will update this review. With that said I would recommend this unit before it sells out! I wish GE had an EXACT, smaller, lighter one of this version for a bedroom window. I would purchase it right now, if they did!

I think we got a lemon. This ultra quiet GE Profile AC was very very loud at times. It would rumble, shake, and at other times it sounded like a very loud waterfall from the water inside. I own another GE profile ultra quiet AC that works fine (slightly different looking model with a piece of metal trim), but this one would wake us up at night when it started rumbling and rattling. I have started the return process. We'll see how it goes. In any event, I'm out the more than 2 hours it took me to unpackage and install it and then uninstall and repackage it - and then of course bringing it to UPS for return. Unfortunate.

Obviously, the first thing I noticed was that the weight is substantially more than other air conditioners in the 5000 to 6000 btu range. It weighs 65 pounds and two 5000 btu Frigidaires I have cannot weigh more than 40 each at the most. This GE is also around $100 more than others with the same btus. The main feature I was looking for is that it runs quietly. I was a little bit skeptical that this operated as low as 42db when others were listed around 55db. I thought it might be too good to be true. It has plenty of cooling power but it is extremely quiet. I am really amazed. It's going in my bedroom and I dreaded buying another AC that was really annoying. But I sleep comfortably and peacefully. It was well worth it the extra money. But remember that you need someone with the strength to put it in for you.

Pros: It cools. It has a quiet setting. Lots of settings.Cons: it's heavy as heck. Quiet setting is not max cool setting, and the worst downside-this is the only window AC I've ever seen where the vents blow up which means cool air does not get projected out into the room.Also, the "quiet" setting is not the coolest. It moves itself to "eco". It also goes on and off when it hits temp and I would prefer something with a fan always on and the thermostat goes off (cold goes off) when it reaches the right temperature.Also this one drains into an internal pan which then somehow gets blown at the unit to cool it and that may be an issue for some folks...

I’ve read this brand is quietest. It worked well all day after installing it. However the issue started the first night a clunking sound like it was clogged. It went away after 15 minutes. Then the next day all was fine until early evening and it started again like it’s clogged and was so severe it rattled the windows. It must be the condenser but what a pain to have to pack it up and send it back.

I have bought this unit for my bedroom window one year ago. The unit was removed in the fall and then installed again by the end of May. During the last 30 years I had many AC unit in my house. Some of them landed on the street on the day of purchase because they were working like a tank while the others' cooling power was ridiculously low. GE unit is the second best I had after the champion - Panasonic's AC unit, unfortunately discontinued. GE unit is powerful, VERY quiet, which is a must for a bedroom AC unit and easy to clean. The only problem I encountered was the ice collecting inside if the machine was working 24/7 for many days. The ice is easy to remove as per instruction provided above by another reviewer. Strongly recommend this AC unit for everybody appreciating quiet night sleep.
