A really clever design for a pipe cutter; the blades are sharp and it cut a nice track. You do have to be patient with cutting steel pipes, and take care initially to lay out a good track... lots of patience is required with thicker hard stainless steel pipes, but when you finally get done it make you feel like a real man! It's technically is not meant for stainless steel, but concensus here is that should probably work, except dull the blade and so it would be a one time or two time use tool which is fine at that price. After cutting midway I sprayed wd40 as cutting oil; silicone spray or marvel mystery oil would have been much better lubricant. Near the end of the cut when part of the pipe is cut through and other parts are not, it gets rougher and friction in the sawing oscillations; once the metal is thin enough you might just want to try twisting the pipe. It's also handy at that point to have a small hacksaw with fine teeth at your side.

Edit: So, I missed the single bullet point in the secondary description saying this is NOT FOR STAINLESS STEEL cutting. BOTH descriptions have bullet points 1 through 5, except the secondary description a third of the way down the Amazon listing sneaks on the warning in bullet point 6. I'm knocking a star off because that's a detail that should be up top. May I suggest combining it with the double-walled bullet point, making it "Not for double walled pipes AND not for stainless steel." Just like that all the 1-3 star reviews wouldn't have a reason for existing.Overall though, the tool is sturdy and the grip is good. The only honest complaint I have is the chain just kinda dangles around and can knock into your knuckles over and over until you get smart and hold it against the handle with whichever hand is closest. If I had aluminum pipes or brand new pipes it probably could cut through like butter. On my 34 year old exhaust though it was no match.Original Review:Tldr because Im still under this car: cuts great for the first 5 minutes, but the next hour is spent checking to see if its doing anything. All the blades on mine that have been making contact are dull and rounded like butter knives now. Save your money and just buy a cutter wheel or reciprocating saw and be done with the job in 45 seconds. The only use I have for this now is using it to mark where I want to cut, and then grabbing a sawzall.

I recently purchased the GEARWRENCH Exhaust and Tailpipe Cutter to replace the rusted-out muffler on my car, and I have to say, it exceeded my expectations. The tool is well-built, with a sturdy frame and comfortable grip that allowed me to make precise cuts without straining my hands. The blade was sharp and easily cut through the tough metal, saving me time and frustration. The adjustable chain made it easy to fit the cutter to the size of the pipe, and the ratcheting action made the process smooth and effortless. Overall, I would highly recommend this tool to anyone in need of a reliable and efficient exhaust and tailpipe cutter.

I used it to remove a short section of ford exhaust so i could install a new exhaust tip. It WORKED! not sure what else to say. It kept me from having to bring out the saw and it makes a very even cut due to its self-centering nature

Used it to cut the exhaust pipe on my Kawasaki Z900. This tool cut through it like butter, making the mod I was doing go so much quicker since I didn’t need to remove the whole exhaust system from the bike. Perfect!!!

Important tips:1: The pipe you are cutting needs to be anchored somehow or it will be significantly harder to get the needed twisting motion with the wrench.2: Oil the chain! I used air tool oil and it worked great.3: Once you have the wrench around the pipe, do a light squeeze for at least 1/4 turn, 1/2 turn would be better but in tight spaces a 1/4 will work. Then squeeze the handles REALLY hard and you will feel the blades sink into the small groove. Hold as tight as you can and twist 1/4 to 1/2 inch turns back and forth. Don't let your grip loosen. It took me about 7 minutes to do this pipe in the pictures, so it does take a little work to get it done, but nothing labor intensive. Overall I am very happy with this tool, did the job in a tight space no problem.

Works well. Use lots of oil. BEWARE… DO NOT use too much force when using this cutter. Many people claim this tool breaks almost instantaneously when using… Those individuals need to RELAX their iron grip… You must start the cut fairly gently and continuously add pressure and wiggle the wrench back and forth while cutting the pipe. When you are mostly through the pipe, then add lots of grip strength and you will end up with a clean cut. On my first attempt I used a bit too much strength and ended up with a slightly jagged cut, I was able to bend the pipe back to normal — I suspect that most people who are breaking this tool are using TOO MUCH power right at first resulting in either a bent pipe or bent/broken blades. Use your noggin, not your testosterone on this one.. This tool allows for nice clean cuts with a bit of patience.
