I love the general pastel chalk. It works and blends better than any other type of compressed media I've used. I especially like this set for blending flesh tones. It just works great. I do wish it came with an extra white and black, since you will probably use those two the most. You can pick this up at Hobby Lobby, but you can't beat Amazon price and convenience. Five stars for fast shipping and excellent product.

Let me first start off, I'm a fan of General's products, however, these pastels are not great. As other people have reviewed, these are very hard pastels and a lot of pressure must be applied to get material onto the paper. The thing that I was looking at when I bought these pastels was the color palette, skin tones and all. They do not blend well, in my opinion. When I try to blend them, they leave residue mark where it was originally applied. As someone who's been making art for 23 years, I would not these pastels to another artist or would-be artist (to me, this would be dissuading to young artist just starting off.) I made a comparison of these pastels to Prismacolor Nu-Pastels.So if you're in the market to buy pastels, don't go for cheap, get someone worth while. I haven't used these since the day I tested them out on paper. I would recommend spending the little extra for for the Prismacolor Nu-Pastels, Mungyo pastels, or even the Jack Richeson pastels.I've made a small comparison between these pastels and the Prismacolor Nu-Pastels. Notice the difference in pigments and also note that the application of the General pastels is hard to apply to the paper, while Prismacolor requires little pressure to get a good application onto the paper.

I do a lot of my wildlife painting in pastels. I use Rembrandt, Carbothello and Faber Castell pitt pastels. I found General products to be of good quality. I use their pencils of all sorts. I especially like their ebony pencils for when I do graphite and colored pencil drawings. These are no exception. I use these to detail and enhance my work. I highly recommend.

I shave these chalk sticks into a powder and dry brush them onto plastic models for highlighting. A clearcoat over the top makes sure it stays where it's put. A good selection of colors here for all kinds of highlighting. Try it, you'll like it.

I find these work wonderfully on pastel board that is heavily textures but the are difficult to worth with on pastel or even charcoal paper. Amount of pressure needed would dimple and scratches the paper even after sanding them a bit. Will keep them for pastel board pieces though.

I was really looking forward to using these pastels because I needed some skin tones. When the package came, a lot of the pastels were broken. Also they are extremely rough and hard to break into. I still do love all the colors that the pack came with, and I can still enjoy them even if they are broken and rough.

Le pastel est dur, donc difficile à étendre sur le papier. Il faut appuyer fortement. Texture plus huileuse au toucher lorsqu’etendu avec le doigt. Couleurs se mélangent bien.
