It is suggested that the Christmas pyramid is a predecessor of the Christmas tree. These pyramids are not limited to Christmas: in the Erzgebirge there was a custom of dancing around the "St. John's Tree", "a pyramid decked with garlands and flowers", at the summer solstice. Not actually pyramid-shaped, the Christmas pyramid is a kind of carousel with several levels, some depicting Christian motifs such as angels or manger scenes, and others with more secular motifs such as mountain-folk, forests, and other scenes from the everyday life of people in the Erzgebirge. The spinning motion of the pyramids is traditionally achieved with the help of candles whose rising heat spins a propeller above.

This is a really nice piece to have in a corner or an out of the way table. I don't use the candles due to little ones running about, but the overhead fan gives slow movement that catches their attention. Easy to assemble and is fairly durable.

This Christmas pyramid is so pretty. Granted, it’s not like the authentic one my grandparents had, but still beautiful. It is very delicate so handle with care! It’s a beautiful center piece for my Christmas table. It came securely packaged so each delicate piece was well protected.

I simply love this Christmas Having lived in Germany for several years, I was pleased to find this manger pyamid table decoration. However, read the instructions. You must remove a washer on the bottom inside of the decoration in order for it to spin properly.

Right off the bat I noticed that two of the figurines inside were broken off which was most likely due to the shipping and handling and I glued them back on which is fine. The biggest problem I have is that it's kind of crooked:-( the the second tier is somewhat crooked and leans to one side and the metal stick that goes through the whole thing and has the blades on top is also crooked. I lit the candles and it does Spin and it spins freely and beautifully so it does function very well:-) the blades on the top of the fan were kind of hard to put in to the holes and I was worried because the blades are so thin and flimsy that I was going to break them trying to push them in so it does work but it could be better made for sure I think that it should be cheaper for what it is and I would not buy it again

I didn’t like it... I loved it! My husband gave this to me as a Christmas gift but before I got sick. Best gift ever! Beautifully lights up and everything on it was well worth the money. I can’t wait to share this with my future children one day.
