Properly tuned and pleasant to listen to. You can give this to a small child and it won't drive you crazy while they grow into it. It's actually a musical instrument and not just a toy.

I was a bit disappointed, but not surprised considering the price. It plays; it makes notes, but they don't ring well -- more of a pitched "clunk." I've made some modifications to mine to improve the sound (I added a soundboard and reseated all the bars), but it will never sound like a true xylophone. If you just want something to play around on, it is affordable and it does make the right notes. If you are looking for a musical instrument to use in a true musical setting (like band), this is not it.

I never write a review, but could not in good conscience let this one slide. I find it incredible that no one has submitted an honest review.It does seem this must be some kind of joke! I didn't check it out until too late to return. Maybe others just returned it and didn't want to be bothered with the time involved to write a review. Just to make sure I wasn't expecting too much or not doing something right, I had 2 instructors look at it and they had a hard time keeping a straight face as they told me this wasn't even a musical instrument. Nothing can be done with it except to junk it. If you think I may be mistaken or you just want to check it out for yourself, just make sure you do so before the return date expires and you have extra time you don't know what to do with other than return items.

Daughter asked Santa for a Xylophone and I was unable to find one locally! Found this unit and am pretty happy. Good quality. Perfect size and weight for a 9 yrs old. Love the carrying case!
